luigi bertolotti Posted October 24, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2010 Welcome to the forum !!! Your camera ought to be a Leica Standard (known in USA as "model E"), a model made from 1932 to 1950, even if, by far, most part of them (13.600 items about) were built before war. You can find lot of info on it in various books and on the Net too (see also our "Wiki" section). I can't read the serial number, but it's a 6 digit, which qualifiies the Standard, which is very similar to the previous Leica I. The lens is the standard Elmar 5 cm f 3,5, famous and very common lens: you can try to dismount it (Leica Standard had interchangable lenses in screw mount), so that you can verify the conditions of shutter's curtain. I doubt it's a fake, seeing the good quality of the various engravings; it looks also very worn, with the black leather that has acquired a typical brownish hue... also the leather case looks original. It was a good camera, the "economic" version of the Leicas of that age, having no coupled rangefinder nor shutter with slow times. It could be finely restored, probably at no great cost, being rather simple, but of course this is worth only if you are interested to have a really fine item: in terms of value, it is not so significant even if in good shape. greyelm Posted October 24, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 24, 2010 The S/N looks like 203311 which makes it a 1936 Standard
