MarkP Posted October 21, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 21, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can anyone recommend a ND filter that fits under the lens hood of the 35mm Lux ASPH (new version)? The hood will not fit over the B+W and Hoya HMC filters as they are just a fraction of a mm wider than the lens barrel. I don't think a Leica 46mm ND filter is available. Advertisement Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Hi MarkP, Take a look here ? ND filter that fits new 35mm Lux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hoppyman Posted October 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 21, 2010 Mark the only filters of any brand or type that I have found fit inside that (external) hood are the Leica branded E46 UV and UV/IR. I suggest just taking the suplied hood off if you want to fit other filter types. You can not fit nor remove any filter in from the front while the hood is on anyway. You can get a $10 metal circular hood to screw into your filters if you wish to leave something like your ND on semi-permanently.

MarkP Posted October 23, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted October 23, 2010 I managed to get a BW on there with the lens hood ,but the filter became stuck in the hood when I removed it.. I'm gonna file the knurled grip down.. My experience too, but it happened in the store before having bought lens or filter so they got it off for me. I wonder whether one could put 46mm ND glass into a Leica filter frame? Otherwise it's shooting with the hood off. Mark
Bo_Lorentzen Posted October 23, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 23, 2010 Mark, I have been staring at my neon ND and the old Leica uvir , I'm taking it to steve when I get home to see if he can swap the filters as the uvir fit under the hood (so to speak) Aside from that, I have found that shooting pulled iso 80 works "just" as long as I'm not in direct sunlight... The files are a bit hot but pulls out of raw just fine. He he, and it does wonders for the shadow details I'm not much for shooting naked lenses without hoods as I have religious beliefs about stray light and image contrast. . Please let me know if the swap works. Perhaps Leica needs to release a range of ND filters for their fast lenses for those times one does want reduced DOF. Or provide lower ISO and 1/8000 shutter speed. I agree I don't like using the lenses without their hoods. Haven't tried ISO 80 yet but will do so. The one stop may well be enough in some situations. How do you process the ISO 80 RAW images differently? Regards, Mark
Bo_Lorentzen Posted October 27, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 27, 2010 Shocker DMW-LND46e. Panoasonic lummox ND filter, I stopped by a panasonic shop in iSquare HK and noticed a 46mm nd filter, asked to try it and was more surprised than the clerk when it vollentaringly removed from my lens hood, it does come off with the hood but is removed by a gentel straight push.. Price about usd 25 or hkd 200. Clearly I bought one on the spot. .

Suonio Posted October 28, 2010 Share #10 Posted October 28, 2010 I had all my 46mm filters lathed at a service shop. As the filers are just a fraction of a mm too wide, it only took "a few" turns and the cost was about 10 € Suonio
