ChiILX1 Posted October 18, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted October 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) HI everyone- it feels like it's time for a new thread. Â What experiences have you had with your X1 and weather? I've talked with a few people about the holes on it for the speakers and I've been told that a little bit of water getting in there wouldn't ruin anything. Maybe you feel they're wrong? Â But more importantly, what have people gotten away with , or not gotten away with, with their X1 and weather? Through this thread perhaps we can gain some understanding of it's limits. fotografr Posted October 18, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted October 18, 2010 You might get away with getting your camera wet in the short term, but generally speaking when water gets inside any digital camera the moisture will eventually cause corrosion. If that corrosion happens to be in a crucial spot on a circuit board, your camera will end up dead. Â I always play it safe and carry a spall plastic bag to cover my camera with in the event of rain. ChiILX1 Posted December 8, 2010 Author Share #3 Â Posted December 8, 2010 Shot for a few hours the other day in the snow. Wiped camera off when I got home and there didn't seem to be any issues. Pictures turned out great too. I'd like to think this thing can handle it. Those four holes on the top are what worry me though.
JeTexas Posted December 8, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted December 8, 2010 Mine put up with some serious humidity all summer. I messed up and left my iPhone in my pocket one day at the marina, and my pants ended up getting so sweaty that it screwed up the volume button. However, aside from the vulcanite peeling, no ill effects on the X1 yet. Â Just by pure luck I haven't run into any rain when I'm out and about with it. And, of course, being in Houston I haven't had to deal with any snow yet.
gar1013 Posted December 8, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted December 8, 2010 The advice we received at the X1 Akademie is to judge based upon your comfort: Would you want to be wearing a rain coat? If so, your X1 would benefit from being protected as well.
ChiILX1 Posted December 8, 2010 Author Share #6 Â Posted December 8, 2010 So they are overtly telling us to personify our X1's? I love how now it's functional and not just marketing aesthetics!

Natrually, if taken to the extreme, my X1 would prefer air conditioning and a tall glass of southern style sweet tea.

gar1013 Posted December 10, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted December 10, 2010 Friend of mine wraps his D-Lux in cling film, you could try the same. Â That strikes me as being as unpleasant as those clear plastic sofa covers, and those gross clear membranes that some people put on keyboards.
