Hektor6644 Posted October 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi: I’m back and hopefully for good. The reason I stopped posting in the Leica Forum is because I sold my D-Lux 4 for many reasons. However, the good news: I just ordered the X1 due to arrive this Wednesday. I had the Nikon D7000 on pre-order but went for the Leica, instead. I’m not fooling myself – it is not the M9. I can afford the X1 now and the M9 (with only three lenses) right after winning the lottery. What happens to the X1, if I win it? It doesn’t matter or it is not relevant after I win the lottery. I can have both. Best regards, Hektor

jmschwartz Posted October 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2010 Hello Ramesses, I, too, cancelled a D7000 order today and am expecting my X1 on Wednesday. I sold my D300s to help finance the purchase. I was going to wait for the all black model but decided that I preferred the grey/black look. Good luck with your forthcoming X1. Hektor6644 Posted October 18, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted October 18, 2010 Hi Jim: Thanks and also Congrats! I pre-ordered the D7000 primarily because of the legacy lenses (AI-s compatible.) I have the three Zeiss (ZF 25, 35, and 50,) which I use with my beloved D700. I ordered the D700 about two years ago, to back up my D300, which I thought was it! I stopped using the D300 because of the D700. Therefore, I sold the D300 and got the D5000, which I thought I was going to use much more being so light and small. When I sold the D5K, it had less than 1800 actuations. It could not dislodge the D700. I might have the same issues with the D7K. Therefore, I went for the X1 – just today – I love the Leica colors and I wanted a rangefinder. It is not the M9, but it is the only main Leica camera I can afford. I am at one with my beloved D700; it has become part of me. I also went lighter selling the 14-24 and 70-200. I got fed up with all the heavy lenses, especially the latter. I rushed the X1 with 2-day Air – getting it this Wednesday. I also got the hand grip, extra battery, the Giotto 2.7” screen protector, and the Billingham compact belt/shoulder case. I did not get the optical viewfinder. I will try to use the Hoodman Loupe, instead. Let me see how it goes. Let’s exchange notes on the X1 after we both get it. No to the all-black. The silver and black is the classic look and the one I like best. Best regards, Hektor

The X1 is very different to the models you are replacing, but it is a remarkably useful compact camera, capable of assisting you to make the highest quality pictures. Hektor6644 Posted October 19, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted October 19, 2010 Hi All: I have tracking number! I’m as excited in getting the X1 as I was when I got the D700, maybe a bit more. I know that the X1 is expensive – these are the Leica prices. Like it or not, they have always been. I have researched the X1 thoroughly and I’m aware of its pros and especially its cons. However, the Leica alternative is 4 – 5 times what I paid for the X1. Therefore, I have no choice but to compromise and work around the shortcomings. The only thing that I’m glad and thankful to Leica is to have made a serious Leica camera (it has an APS-C sensor) affordable to its poor relatives like me. The X1 is a serious Leica camera, made in Solms (OK, assembled in Germany,) that reproduces the Leica Colors – the colors I love. Enough of my preaching . I got the following with the X1: Leica X1 Digital Compact Camera With Elmarit 24mm f/2.8 18420 - 1. The extra battery - $93. What is it made out of gold? (Since I will be a Leica owner, I have to complain about something. ) Leica BP-DC8 Lithium-Ion Battery f/ Leica X1 Digital 18706 - B&H 2. The grip - $125 worth of plastic. Don’t get me started on this one. Leica X1 Hand Grip for Leica X1 Compact Digital Camera 18712 - 3. The Giotto 2.7” LCD protector – 12 layers. Giottos AEGIS Professional Glass Optic Screen Protector SP8270 - 4. The 12-pack clear protectors - to protect the protector. Digital Camera/Camcorder Screen Protector Kit 5. The Billingham belt case. Beautiful and expensive, but well-padded inside. Nothing but the best for my precious little camera. Billingham Stowaway Compact Bag (Black) 500501 - B&H Photo Video 6. The cinema straps for my Hoodman “HoodLoupe.: It is a replacement part for the straps - the ring attachment broke. Hoodman Cinema Strap HSLRM - B&H Photo Video Best regards, Hektor
tom0511 Posted October 22, 2010 Share #14 Posted October 22, 2010 I can only say that the x1 is a great camera. Out of my camera collection (including ep2, d700, M9 and x1 and some others) it is the camera I took most images this year so far. Main resaons: Simplicity of the user face (Just much better than overloaded m4/3 IMO), the near silent shutter, and I dont have to think about which lens to bring and use (the camera makes that decision for me). Its small and light and easy to carry. However accept that the camera AF is slow. If you shoot kids etc. there are work arounds plus one tip: take several images and 1 might be fine. IQ is great too. Have fun!
Guest badbob Posted October 22, 2010 Share #15 Posted October 22, 2010 If you shoot kids or animals or other moving subjects, try burst mode and you might have a better chance of getting one.
