Kimpers Posted October 17, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 17, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) ...I am a newbie (just joined) but have used Leicas for some time (3G, M7, M8.2 - current). I decided to update BIOS to 2.005 (?) but a battery warning of 'not enough charge' prohibits this upgrade. Would buying new batteries overcome this problem, or is it a "discharge and recharge"issue to build the battery up to maximum strength? ...or can I externally power-up my Leica M8 to run the SanDisk (root) upgrade patch? Advertisement Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Hi Kimpers, Take a look here BIOS 2.005 - Battery not charged?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
SJP Posted October 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2010 I had this once and a using a freshly charged battery solved the problem. Possibly you need to run down the battery first (switch camera on and set auto-off to "never") and then recharge. That should recalibrate the battery charge indication. Shootist Posted October 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 17, 2010 Also you may just have a older weak battery, weak do to age not something wrong with the original batteries. Are you using a REAL Leica battery? If not then I suggest you get at least one REAL M8/8.2/9 battery. None of the after market batteries that I have seen, I have 2 of them, or heard of show a full charge even though they are fully charged unless you first run them all the way down before recharging them. Maybe some of the newer one are different.
Kimpers Posted October 17, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted October 17, 2010 Thanks very much indeed for your advice. I will buy a couple of batteries and sort this out. Is it worth installing BIOS 2.005? ...and (having read through some listings) is it then (really) advisable to uninstall BIOS 2.005 again?? ...this doesn't sound like a particularly good idea to me, bearing in mind the permanence of firmware?? chris_livsey Posted October 17, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 17, 2010 From Leica site: This firmware version 2.005 :- Resolving the error message „Shutter fault“ When shooting in C-Mode (Continuous) or taking several pictures consecutively in S-Mode (Single), the message „Shutter Fault“may appear on the display. The new firmware 2.005 will solve this issue. Please note: a. After updating to the new 2.005 firmware the LEICA M8 with quiet 1/4000s shutter and LEICA M8.2 can not be „downgraded“ to the previous firmware. You don't say what version you are running now but the consensus is the shutter fault is well worth avoiding. There is no going back !! http://uk.leica-camera.com/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_4942.pdf
Maarten Posted October 17, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 17, 2010 I recommend bringing your M8 to the latest firmware. When you will have a proper battery installed the update will run smooth as long as you give the camera a few seconds time before you answer the question: 'do you want to upgrade to 2.005 now?' This is a reported bug. Once installed you're done and you do not need to un-install and install again. Maarten
Kimpers Posted October 18, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted October 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I should receive two new batteries early this week. Will I need to 'drain' these batteries before charging them to guarantee that they are fully charged?
SJP Posted October 18, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 18, 2010 No that should not be neccesary
