.....And another argument for the Leica hit me yesterday: In five years, what I paid for the camera will be of no concern. And since the Leica is so much more elegant, it is clearly the more desirable...

And the Leica grip makes it even more desirable!

Yes, I have simlar experience - I am using the LX5 battery as a spare and the Lumix View finder without any problems.

I have the D-Lux 5 and have successfully used the Lumix battery in it. I have also used the Lumix viewfinder as well. No issues.

I'm about to go to Peru and need an extra battery for my D-lux 5, so I can order the battery seen here for it right?

Power-2000 DMW-BCJ13 Lithium-Ion Battery ACD-330 B&H Photo Video

it just doesn't show the battery % level right?

Why on earth would you buy this battery to use in a $800 camera when you can buy a Panasonic battery MADE for the camera for a few dollars more.

Have you read the customer reviews? They are not good.

Correct. As long as you can live with that, the battery works fine. Mine does not last anywhere near as long as the Leica battery, but it's a decent backup. It does die abruptly, though, leaving you with the lens extended and with no way of retracting it. If that happens, turn off the camera for a couple of minutes, then turn it back on again. It will have recovered enough to allow you to immediately turn the camera off and have the lens retract. Been there, done that.

They're plenty cheap, so get more than one. If that seems silly to you, or you don't want the uncertainty, get the more expensive Panasonic.

because it's cheaper and I thought I was leaving out of the country a lot sooner than I was and couldn't get the Leica battery in time.

That's just it, you don't need a Leica battery!!!

The Panasonic battery for the LX5 is the same and half the price. The only difference is the brand name printed on it. One says Panasonic the other Leica. They are in fact the same battery because the cameras are exactly the same.
