ho_co Posted October 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted October 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since a number of people are receiving D-Lux 5's: Does the camera require a Leica battery? Will it recognize the LX-5 battery? Will it accept an aftermarket battery? Thanks!
Advertisement Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 Hi ho_co, Take a look here D-Lux 5 battery question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Shootist Posted October 17, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 17, 2010 No one know as yet, unless someone has both cameras, as there are no extra batteries available for either camera.
dfarkas Posted October 17, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 17, 2010 No one know as yet, unless someone has both cameras, as there are no extra batteries available for either camera. Dale Photo & Digital has extra D-Lux 5 batteries in stock. To answer the OP's questions, I was told by Leica that the D-Lux 5 will not recognize any aftermarket batteries. I'm not sure about LX-5 batteries, though. David
jjonsalt Posted November 4, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 4, 2010 popflash.com has the D-Lux 5 for $79 which I guess is not too bad. But, I wonder if the less expensive battery for the LX 5 (also 3.6 V/1250 mAh) would work as well and save one a few bucks?
ho_co Posted November 4, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted November 4, 2010 ... I wonder if the less expensive battery for the LX 5 (also 3.6 V/1250 mAh) would work as well and save one a few bucks? Someone's going to have to try it and see! Funny how close "saving a few bucks" is to "wasting money on a battery that doesn't work, isn't it? Thanks, JJ, for seeing this thread and keeping it alive. Like you, I'm wondering how camera-specific the requirements are. If someone has one and sees someone else with the other, the answer is only 30 seconds away. Since both cameras are shipping, we should be able to find out soon!
ho_co Posted November 19, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted November 19, 2010 Hey, guys, anybody had time to try an LX5 battery in a D-Lux 5 or vice versa?

ho_co Posted November 20, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted November 20, 2010 Oh, and did I say, "Shut up, dammit!" BTW-- Pete, in another thread, I think you used the term "counter-clockwise." I thought that was an Americanism, and you'd have said "anti-clockwise." Just curious.
farnz Posted November 20, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 20, 2010 (Nice try at changing the subject, Howard.) I would normally say "anti-clockwise" unless I was speaking to, say, an American and I thought that using counterclockwise would would clarify matters. Pete. Shootist Posted November 20, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 20, 2010 Actually someone on this forum or over at DPR has both cameras and as far as he states the batteries are interchangable. I think it was on this forum because he first bought a DL5 and his wife liked so much she kinda kept it so he bought a second one. Then just for laughs he also bought the LX5. I tried to find the post but came up short.
farnz Posted November 20, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 20, 2010 Ed, I think it was forum member CDR in this thread. Pete.
ho_co Posted November 21, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted November 21, 2010 (Nice try at changing the subject, Howard.)... Dammit, Pete! I had actually considered putting into that post a disclaimer along the line of "At risk of being thought to be attempting to change the subject...," but thought better of it because I figured that would be too obvious. ho_co Posted November 21, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted November 21, 2010 Actually someone on this forum or over at DPR has both cameras and as far as he states the batteries are interchangable.... Thanks for remembering it, Ed; and thanks, Pete, for finding the thread. I followed the link and yes, he does have both cameras and a couple spare Leica batteries, but as I read it, cdr hadn't verified that they work in both cameras. Or even that they work in one, for that matter. Hope he got that solved. I know, Pete! "Resistance is Useless!" Shut up! And another argument for the Leica hit me yesterday: In five years, what I paid for the camera will be of no concern. And since the Leica is so much more elegant, it is clearly the more desirable... arem001 Posted December 8, 2010 Share #14 Posted December 8, 2010 I think as far as possible to buy original, or will affect the life of the camera
BossAngeles Posted May 22, 2011 Share #15 Posted May 22, 2011 I have the D-Lux 5 and have successfully used the Lumix battery in it. I have also used the Lumix viewfinder as well. No issues.
anderswi Posted May 22, 2011 Share #16 Posted May 22, 2011 Why make your Leica even more Panasonic than it already is? The red dot comes with a price. The batterylogo is not visible, when inside the camera. Pity?

ho_co Posted May 22, 2011 Author Share #18 Posted May 22, 2011 Thanks, Boss Angel! I wondered just how brand-specific the batteries were. I have no idea how you build a camera able to tell what battery is in it. I guess you could set the camera to fetch a string of characters from the battery, but I suppose here they let the circuit check for presence of a particular feature on the battery that would be missing on cheap knock-offs. I appreciate your assuaging my curiosity!
c.d.ewen Posted May 23, 2011 Share #19 Posted May 23, 2011 I've used this one ($17.99), with no problems: Power-2000 DMW-BCJ13 Lithium-Ion Battery ACD-330 B&H Photo Video. Read the reviews there, as some have complaints. Charley
