Can you hear the shutter on the X1 ?

So, we're more than 6 months away from the projected release of a camera with unknown quality, build, price, availability.

 

That's an awful lot of what if, and quite a bit more time to lug around. This guy is a working pro, even if he gets the x1 now, the depreciation shouldn't be that hard to swallow (granted if you won't sell over the internet it may take a while).

 

I'm also a working pro, and I can't use the X1 for 90% of my work because it's too slow. If time is not essential here, I would still suggest holding off to see how the X100 performs. Having seen what Fuji has done with image quality--particularly at high ISOs-- on several of their P&S cameras, and knowing how well the Fujinon lenses have performed for many years, I don't think I'd be too worried about image quality on the X100. There's not much point in debating this here, but I'd be happy to revisit the topic in six months.

I get it man, it is slow in the af dept.. without doubt. I think my first response questioned whether that would be a problem for him.

 

The point still stands that if someone is looking for a camera.. a hypothetical release date of a completely unknown and as of now mere concept product is not exactly something I'd wait for. I guess it just depends how soon he wants a solution.

 

What type of stuff do you shoot most of the time? It sure would be great if the x1 was faster.

Mostly environmental portraits, sports and theatre. The biggest problem I have with the X1 is the write time. Maybe that will improve with a firmware update.

Yah, for a very expensive compact, they sure used old components..io controller presumably, LCD, etc. Bummer.

I appreciate the nod to the Fuji X 100. I don't have any particular brand loyalty. I just use what's best for me at the time. Before the D3 came out I used Canons before that Nikon Fm's. The D3 had better noise control

and that was important to me as I shoot on film sets and they are often very dark.

At the moment the X1 is the best quality low (ish) noise camera with a quiet shutter. If only they made one's with 24mm, 50mm and 85mm lenses. Then there is the AF issue, which I think is not that much of a problem

providing the scene is not too dark (can't use focus assist as it's distracting for the actors).

So, I think from your comments I feel the shutter is acceptable in all but the most intimate of dialog. When I get the opportunity, I'll test it for myself. In the meantime, thanks to you all !
