Advertisement Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Hi Guest Olof, Take a look here Leica Correction Lenses vs. Viewfinder Magnifier 1.25x. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 13, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 13, 2007 The magnifier, which btw takes correction lenses as well.
bap Posted January 13, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 13, 2007 I have a correction eye piece but I ordered a magnifier because all the eye piece did is make the small image clear I need it large...I have the same problem as you have but I can't tell you how it works because it seems to be on backorder
marco_rol Posted January 14, 2007 Share #4  Posted January 14, 2007 ... it seems to be on backorder  Tony Rose at Pop Flash (POPFLASH.COM - Cameras & Photographic Equipment) appears to have them in stock. You can also do what I did, which is to buy the 1.3x magnifier from megapearls (Megaperls Webshop - Films and more directly from Japan). I just got it yesterday and haven't used it yet. Â Just to be clear so I don't get the megapearls guys in trouble, I should have also mentioned that due to patent issues, the megapearls option is only available to those outside the US or Germany (I picked up mine outside the US). So if you're in either the US or Germany you should go for the Leica magnifier, but if you're outside of those two countries, you should at least check out the megapearls version. Guest Metroman Posted March 23, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 23, 2007 I have the Megaperls one which also has dioptic adjustment built in. Well made and only three days to arrive from Japan. Dirk at Megaperls also communicates from start to finish. Â I then used the Aki-Asahi Eye Piece set on the magnifier to protect my glasses. These took four days from Japan. Â I'm sure you can have it sent to a friend outside of Germany.
guywalder Posted March 24, 2007 Share #7  Posted March 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jan, the two products do different things, correction lens will make the viewfinder image sharper (if you need a correction lens) magnifyer will make the viewfinder image appear larger  I wear glasses most of the time, and contact lenses sometimes. I dont use a correction lens because taking my glasses off and putting them back is a pain in the ***. If you have glasses that you dont wear very often then you sound like an ideal candidate for a correction lens. Having said that the magnifyer will also help. The M8 and 50/1.4 needs pretty accurate focusing. I have the magnifyer, although putting it on and then off when I change to the 28mm lens is also a pain.....  Alles klar? egibaud Posted March 24, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 24, 2007 x1.25 is essential from 50mm and above. Â perfect for me although I use glasses. Â Eric
stunsworth Posted March 24, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 24, 2007 x1.25 is essential from 50mm and above Not in my experience. I've managed to use a Summicron and Nocti without feeling I need the magnifier.
ibogost Posted March 24, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted March 24, 2007 Does there exist anywhere a simulation or even just a rough image of what the viewfinder looks like with and without the 1.25? I've considered getting one a few times but it's a little pricey just to buy on spec. Wish I could at least get some sense of how the viewfinder would look, and how occluded the meter readout is, etc.
jfaier Posted March 24, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted March 24, 2007 hey has anyone had a problem with the viewfinder coming apart when you remove the diopter correction lens? I posted this in a previous thread. Just curious if this is a design issue or my unit. I was able to put it back together but its kind of annoying. Shootist Posted March 24, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted March 24, 2007 hey has anyone had a problem with the viewfinder coming apart when you remove the diopter correction lens? I posted this in a previous thread. Just curious if this is a design issue or my unit. I was able to put it back together but its kind of annoying. Â The few times I have used the 1.25x mag with the M8 and diopter, I always use the diopter with or without the 125x mag, I have never had a problem with the mag coming apart. After reading another thread about it coming apart, it might of been your thread, I tried to take the mag apart and couldn't do it with my hands. I didn't try any tools on it. Â If yours comes apart easily I suggest you contact Leica support and get it replaced.
