OS X 10.5.8 v OS X 10.6

I'm running a McBook Pro with OS X 10.5.8 and was thinking about upgrading to OS X 10.6, mainly to be able to use the Trackpad, which on paper looks quite good.

(I understand 10.6 is required to support it.)

Just wondered if anyone had any comments/experienced any problems in going to the latest OP.

I've been holding off upgrading until last week. My new iMac came with it and I upgraded my MacBook Pro.

So far I notice no problems at all except I find Image Capture.app has got a clumsier interface and the only thing I don't like is the way my iPhone's notes appear in Mail.app's inbox. I can't find a way to hide them, don't want to delete them, but it's absurd I have to look at them in the inbox all the time. When I upgraded the MBP the same thing has happened so it's something to do with 10.6.

I didn't have any problems except for one that was major. I had a Microtek flatbed scanner that refused to work and Microtek was no longer supporting it. Turned out to be an insurmountable problem. My solution was to replace the scanner. At this point, you shouldn't have any issues with printers or newer scanners, and everything else (I am a PS/Bridge person) works fine.

You should have tried Vuescan first, it supports a lot of Microtek scanners...

VueScan Release Notes

There's an Apple announcement on the 20th, it might be worthwhile holding off buying a new OS until then - just in case there's a new 'pay for' release.
