Dear all,

I promised to make some samples available. All handheld with SF58 lighting. Typically f16.

Downsized to 2048K but you can still see the quality of this lense.

No cropping at all. Sharpening and levels adjusted in LR3.

Hope they are of interest

Thanks Constable.

Great pictures .... the colours rendition and the level of details are amazing. They also seem to be be very "planar" ....

This combination camera + lens seem to be an absolute winner for macro (well, apart the price of course).

Have you tried shooting moving subjects in macro, like butterflies, lizards or small mammals, insects, or even flowers / leaves with some wind?

Thanks again.

Thanks everyone,

Been kind of busy lately but finally managed to get out for some fun this weekend.

General thoughts on the 120mm macro:

1. The S2-120mm combination is certainly better than the D3X-100 mm Zeiss combination. Primarily due to the higher number of pixels on subject but also the Leica-feel. Image quality is subjectively similar to Hassy plus 120 macro BUT as we have always said on this forum, it is like using a normal DSLR

2. This lense needs really to be used on a tripod. The DOF is so shallow that handholding (at least if you are still breathing) is hard.

3. You need to rack your flash back to about -1 EV in combination with this lense

4. I wish it was 1:1 but the diopter works well (with horrible effects on the DOF of course .. it feels like a couple of microns deep!) and you have enough pixels to crop heavily. With insects you really can't get close enough and I hope someone comes up with some extension tubes soon.

Attached, field cricket cropped and down-rezzed
