haris Posted January 12, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â I just read at APUG forum, Forte closed its production. More on: Â Forte stop it's production - APUG Â It is sad to see another traditional manufacturer is gone. Even if film, paper chemistry will be avaliable, less manufacturers means less competition, and that means higher prices and dificulties with availability. Advertisement Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 Hi haris, Take a look here Forte is gone. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert_parker Posted January 12, 2007 Share #2  Posted January 12, 2007 Hi Haris  It's sad to see another source of analogue workflow biting the dust - it does show what is becoming an overwhelming effect of the trend towards digital photography.  Great to hear from you again
jlancasterd Posted January 12, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted January 12, 2007 The Forte website is still active, with no mention of closure.
haris Posted January 12, 2007 Author Share #4 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Please check above link, I read information there. Of course, nothing is 100 % sure in this world, but informations one can find on APUG forum are mostly true. Â We, film photographers, are indangered species, so we are not keen to spread such bad informations just for fun, you know some of us have bad hearts, so we don't want to cause heart attack to anyone... cardinal Posted January 12, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted January 12, 2007 There have been new arrivals though. Look at Rollei and Maco films and the wide variety that they make. I feel sorry for the people to be layed off but there might be a new company that could come out of this. They are not going to close the plant down and throw all their assets away. Somebody will come by and purchase the machinery and such. I mean what are you going to do with a forklift or what ever it would be. They are going to use it to make money. There will be new and different invenstors with different visions that make it happen. Do not worry film will be around.
xrogers Posted January 12, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Too bad, they had some very fine products. I used their polygrade fiber paper every now and again because it toned beautifully and could be spot bleached far better than Ilford without staining. Â Long live Tri-x and Ilford Multigrade FB! cbretteville Posted January 13, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Tri-X isn't what it used to be, but I'll take HP5+. Ilford is committed to silver photography, remains to be seen how long Kodak remains in the game. Â - C
haris Posted January 14, 2007 Author Share #9 Â Posted January 14, 2007 Well, I wouldn't dissmiss any manufacturer, including Kodak. Who like Kodak, please continue to buy it. More we use/buy, more chance manufacturers will survive and we will have our beloved materials. Â Newest informations are: Kentmere probably take Forte warmtone paper, Bergger rest (or some of it). Source: discussion at APUG, see my first post for link.
