Advertisement Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Hi super7668, Take a look here which mini tripod you recommend?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Sailronin Posted October 1, 2010 Share #2 Posted October 1, 2010 I use a Gorillapod (large one) and a small Manfrotto ball head. It weighs almost nothing and the flexible legs can grip a stair handrail or small branch if needed. Doesn't look very good but works great for a travel 'pod. pop Posted October 1, 2010 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2010 want it small, light but also strong enough, maybe looks good enough to match my M8. How tall is "small"? Are you thinking of something like a table tripod or one which can hold a camera at breast height above the ground?
kanzlr Posted October 1, 2010 Share #4 Posted October 1, 2010 as a table top solution I use a Novoflex: Novoflex Microstativ Tabletop Tripod with BALL 19 MICROSTATIV - works very well, has a good ball head, is small and comes with a small add on shoe for setting up a flash somewhere. NZDavid Posted October 1, 2010 Share #5 Posted October 1, 2010 Leitz tabletop tripod with ballhead.
masjah Posted October 1, 2010 Share #6 Posted October 1, 2010 Look at the Manfrotto table top tripod kit 345 (different catalogue number in the US I think). Consists of the tripod, an extension tube, a mini ball head, and a nice case. I think it's excellent, and very good value.

wda Posted October 1, 2010 Share #8 Posted October 1, 2010 Leitz table tripod and head are the best combination for supporting an M8. I also have a Gorillapod. Although it is more flexible, I never feel that is as steady and secure as the Leitz model.
H. James Wolf Posted October 1, 2010 Share #9 Posted October 1, 2010 The Leitz tabletop and older small ballhead or current larger ballhead are stable, portable, and can also be used as a chest pod. I have used this as it's intended as well as bracing it against a wall and even a telephone pole. Works great.

Please recommend one, thanks! The problem with table top tripods is that you need a table (or equivalent object at the right height and in the right position) for them to be useful. Otherwise the control you might have had with your composition is usurped by whatever inanimate object is in the vicinity. Who ever heard of a table, or a tree, or a Greek temple, dictating photographic composition? So I would recommend a proper lightweight travel tripod, like the carbon Feisol CT-3441SB. d2mini Posted October 1, 2010 Share #11 Posted October 1, 2010 Why does everyone assume "table top" when the request is for a small tripod? Look at Benro's line of Travel Angel tripods. Those are some of the smallest available that are still strong enough to hold a dslr.
bill Posted October 4, 2010 Share #12 Posted October 4, 2010 The use of the word ''mini'' led us in that direction, I feel... Regards, Bill

peter_n Posted October 11, 2010 Share #14 Posted October 11, 2010 need one to travel with me, want it small, light but also strong enough, maybe looks good enough to match my M8.A travel tripod? The Gitzo 1541T, and get a Markins Q3T ballhead as it was specifically designed to use with the Gitzo Traveler series. If you need to shoot in water get the Gitzo 1581OT kit; the Ocean Traveler comes with a ballhead.

Had this with me to the California Coast this summer, it weighs nothing, is fast to set up and nicely versatile. Doing a lot of shooting with it, add the RRS baseplate to your M and you've got a wicked combination!!
aymoon Posted October 11, 2010 Share #16 Posted October 11, 2010 I have the Manfrotto 709B, which I think is the best of it's kind, and only a fraction of the cost of the Leica table-top + ball head. It looks good, is easy to carry and is totally solid; I love it.
Wiggi Posted October 11, 2010 Share #17 Posted October 11, 2010 I am using the Leica Miniature Tripod, folding type, No. 14100, and the Ball Head, No. 14110. It fits perfectly in the Billingham for Leica bag.

Yes - I think that this actually comprises the tripod and ballhead from the 345 table-top outfit (that is, without the extension tube and case). It does. I made up the set by buying the extension tube separately. It will be coming with me to Venice Regards, Bill
rob_x2004 Posted October 12, 2010 Share #20 Posted October 12, 2010 I find the minis a waste of space, since you need the height. If you dont need the height then the nearest rubbish bin provides something that crumples to provide level and stable. Someone please convince me lightweight otherwise before...feb 2011.
