john_r_smith Posted January 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) A little while back, I got a s/h series 63 drop-in UV filter for my Hasselblad wide-angle lenses. These old "C" lenses take filters which drop into a recess in the front of the lens, and are then held in place by a threaded ring which screws into what you would think would be the filter thread. Anyhow, I was surprised to see that my nice new (old) filter was proudly engraved around the rim with the noble script "Leitz Wetzlar". How odd. Did Leica make filters for Hasselblad at one time? I don't think Leica ever made filters for Hasselblad - indeed I don't think Leica actually make the filters either (they are made and branded for them). This might be a handy thing to know, as the Hasselblad filters are hard to find. PS James you are brilliant, your clue has helped me solve the mystery. The filter is a Leitz Series 8 UVa, and there is a whole range of Leica series 8 filters which will work just fine on the 'Blad wide-angles, including the early SWC. earleygallery Posted January 12, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 12, 2007 John, Not brilliant, I just have a older style 35mm Summicron R which uses series filters (although I don't actually have any). The polariser would be good though because its held in place by the lens hood which has a little wheel that rotates the filter! The lens needs a CLA so when I get that done I'll treat it to the pola. The Minolta-derived f2.8 Elmarit-R 24mm uses series 8 filters, held in place by the lens hood - I used one for several years before buying the 21-35mm Vario-Elmarit.
