Ivar B Posted September 28, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got a Leica M4 chrome, bought new by the previous owner in 1969. The camera is practically mint, in box with matching serial number, guarantee card and all. Even the plastic bag with the serial number glued onto it is there. The camera had not been used for long so the longer shutter speeds are off, but Reinhardt will service it. I already have a a chrome M4 in my collection, also virtually mint and serviced, but no box or papers. I will probably consider selling that one to make room for something else. Does anyonw know roughly what a very nice M4 chrome sells for these days? If prices are low, I will keep it.

luigi bertolotti Posted September 28, 2010 Share #2 Posted September 28, 2010 I always take this site as a good reference point : www.leicashop.com (6 chrome M4 at the moment)... as well as this serious Italian dealer : www.newoldcamera.com (4 or 5 for sale). Xmas Posted September 28, 2010 Share #3 Posted September 28, 2010 Prices for film bodies seem to be low, lenses high, M9s are flooding the market... Noel
luigi bertolotti Posted September 28, 2010 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2010 Prices for film bodies seem to be low, lenses high, M9s are flooding the market... Noel Yes, I think that M8 and morover M9 have lowered the interest for classic M bodies as user items (this appears also from the prices of newer models like M6) : probably they are going to stabilize at a price lower than used to be 3-4 years ago; prices will remain good for "collectors' grade" items : very good and complete items (like the one Ivar acquired) and, of course, the rare and sought after items like MP or similar... Xmas Posted September 28, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2010 (Old) single coated lenses like type I crons and 40mm CL crons are in demand from M8 and M9 owners who like the lower contrast. I'd not split up a kit myself.
Carl E Posted November 28, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 28, 2010 I have to admit to being somewhat inspired by Ivar's original post, so I have also been on the lookout for an M4. I spent futile weeks trying to see what eBay might have to offer, but finally made the plunge at Aperture in London. Add to that a near mint 3rd version German Summicron 50 which I picked up locally in Norway from a fellow Leicaphile, and I am now a very happy bunny. Welcome, dear visitor!
