bill Posted September 22, 2010 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sometimes it is healthy to step out of the overheated debate that prevails here every time "perfidious Leica" makes an announcement and see what others think. All of the following are from Facebook, where Leica have nearly 68,000 followers: - A beautiful camera...I want one! - Would love to have one! :-) - more than 500 of us would like a Ti M9 hopefully they'll bring out a non-collectors edition, for those who like to shoot not shine !! - best camera in the world - m9...it´s a beautiful dream :-) - congratulations...gorgeous design. - Well done Leica - This could be a big hit to the masses if only the price is a little bit affordable say below $10,000. but anyhow good design concept. - Wonderful - Awesome - i like it - as a piece of craftsmanship Leica is brilliant, picture quality wise it's just normal - simply...beautiful... - Behind glass? I would like to try one of those. :-) - nice - Well I sure wish I could have one of those... - Dear Santa.. I've been good. Please give me a M9T for christmas - Heaven!! - Wish I could be at Photokina, your stand is amazing! - how i wish i can be there and stare at those for the whole day! - fantastic.. - Super!. - Powerfull!!!! - Nice there I have no comment to make other than that perspective is a useful thing. bill Posted September 22, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted September 22, 2010 Deep and inciteful stuff on Facebook! Dismiss at your peril, David... I have said before, and I will say again; it is arrogant and condescending to assume that the views of others outside of this forum do not matter, or are not taken into consideration by Leica. NZDavid Posted September 22, 2010 Share #5 Posted September 22, 2010 Dismiss at your peril, David... I have said before, and I will say again; it is arrogant and condescending to assume that the views of others outside of this forum do not matter, or are not taken into consideration by Leica. Regards, Bill I'm glad they're happy, Bill, but Facebook is hardly the place for deep and serious debate on weighty matters, surely! You'd never find glib, adolescent repartee and one-liners here, obviously! I need to add more In a more serious vein, Facebook seems to invite a different, short and snappy, emotional response rather than lengthy discussion. Maybe that's good. Sometimes. Forum can be like that, too. Sometimes, sometimes not. Both have their place. Comparing the demographics of forum users versus Facebook users (and who is both) would be interesting. bill Posted September 22, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted September 22, 2010 As you wish, David. You are missing my point. Po-faced pontification does not confer any right to be listened to, no matter how much some here may wish. Ours are not the only voices being heard by Leica. Bear in mind that the people posting one-liners on Facebook have disposable income just like us - Leica do. Regards, Bill
NZDavid Posted September 22, 2010 Share #7 Posted September 22, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh dear, it seems impossible to write anything ironic, or even with a mild sardonic edge without adding zillions of emoticons these days! Such is the internet age. Everyone takes everything so seriously. No offence intended, I appreciate the post. It's late, I'm going to read a book. mhoersch Posted September 22, 2010 Share #9 Posted September 22, 2010 Thanks Bill for putting things into the Facebook perspective! Isn't that exactly what Leica seem to be doing these days? Times are changing, indeed, aren't they? And isn't it simply marvellous? The more CEOs get fired the more giggles from Mr. K. and Mr. D. They are sure having fun. So, let's just not be childish, but patient! We non-existant R-users and a handful of prospective M9-buyers still waiting for delivery of their cracked sensors and red corners are sure to catch on after a few years of careful explaining. And some more special editions, of course. Oh, sorry, I almost forgot:

I was just trying to introduce perspective. I don't necessarily agree with the views or sentiments expressed, but I do believe that everyone's opinion is as valid as everyone elses regardless of where they post. earleygallery Posted September 22, 2010 Share #11 Posted September 22, 2010 Bill, Sorry but you're cherry picking, there's lots of criticism on Facebook as well! Some like it, more don't. Money eater Its nice, but I am all about my M7, and M6. Long live film! hey, my m4 works fine! around $30K for m9 titanium Just another useless embellishment for the wine sipping, cheese nibbling idle rich. Sounds very expensive... Can I just have the normal one? And they say there is no wide gap between the classes. ridiculous gadget, I hope there is no sensor inside, this jewelry no need sensor at last. Ghastly thing, like a faberge egg Marcin, I agree with you. Leica is going to a wrong way. They should focus their resources in developing digital technology. For special edition camera, I will only collect film camera. The LED framelines are innovative but the styling... no. And the price is simply immoral, you could buy an Audi car for that money! красивее ничего не видел)))но цена((( A "new paint" X1, a pair of reburfished Panasonics and this... If innovations of this kind is what we can expect from Leica... Where is the R solution we're still waiting for? bill Posted September 22, 2010 Author Share #13 Posted September 22, 2010 You should try it Simon - there are many from here on there James - of course I was being selective - the point was that there are far more than the overwhelming negative viewpoints being expressed here, in the wider world. adan Posted September 22, 2010 Share #14 Posted September 22, 2010 ...I do believe that everyone's opinion is as valid as everyone elses.... Really? You'd take my opinion (over a barrister's) if you had a legal problem? You'd take my opinion (over a surgeon's) if you were deciding whether to have a risky operation? I guess taking any opinion as valid is less expensive, in the short run, than consulting a professional - not sure about the outcomes, though.
