Advertisement Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Hi newtoleica, Take a look here strange advertisements. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted September 28, 2010 Share #22 Posted September 28, 2010 If you look at the bottom right hand corner of the front page, there is a link called "How to become a Forum Sponsor" As a Mod, I don't get the benefit of having the adverts blanked, but sponsors do. delander † Posted September 28, 2010 Author Share #23 Posted September 28, 2010 But Andy, these ads are relatively new, so something must have changed. I have addblocked them but what about the real photographic advertisers, they seem to have disappeared as well. Jeff
andybarton Posted September 28, 2010 Share #24 Posted September 28, 2010 I believe that if you AdBlock the ads, all the ads get blocked I don't know, as I don't block ads, so that when people start to complain about ads, I have a chance of seeing what they are. It also gives me an opportunity of providing Andreas with the URLs linked to via ads, so that they can be blocked. Google ads will also be different depending upon where in the world you are. newtoleica Posted September 28, 2010 Share #25 Posted September 28, 2010 If you look at the bottom right hand corner of the front page, there is a link called "How to become a Forum Sponsor" As a Mod, I don't get the benefit of having the adverts blanked, but sponsors do. According to that link, being a 'sponsor' means being an advertiser that can place banner ads..... (no problem with that) Its the Google ads I hate. Intrusive and unpleasant 'congratuations you've won an iPad' etc..... I don't mind supporting sites like this with a small fee (like Nikonians do), but I do object to the ads. and no I dont want to be fiddling with ad blockers, I'd probably just not bother wasting time on the site
andybarton Posted September 28, 2010 Share #26 Posted September 28, 2010 I will try and help you further when I get home. I'm a bit busy now. There is definitely a way to sponsor the site as an individual and get rid of all the ads.

Andy I adblock individual ads. If I recall correctly some of these unwelcomed ads actually occupy space previously used by Red Dot and B&H etc. Jeff

andybarton Posted September 29, 2010 Share #29 Posted September 29, 2010 I can now confirm that if you become a Sponsoring Member, ALL ads get switched off, including Google ads. I have also asked Andreas to consider making it much more obvious how to become a Sponsoring Member.
darvin2138 Posted September 30, 2010 Share #30 Posted September 30, 2010 Use Safari and you can block all pop-up windows...instant no ads..

JanCderidder Posted October 1, 2010 Share #33 Posted October 1, 2010 it's actually individual ---- Google tags your searches and pops up appropriate adverts on the site you travel to, it's the new search engine mechanism introduced by google some time back. Try it out for yourself. I search for Star War memorabilia often and I get followed by Star War ads .... It has nothing to do with the site you're visiting, they have no influence what so ever If you get a fat girl riding a bronco .... well sort of explains things don't it :-)
