robsteve Posted January 10, 2007 Share #1 Posted January 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) On another forum, there have been comments that my DMR skies are too cyan. I am beginning to think it is just people are now used to a certain colour palette that the other brands of digitals is giving them. Here is a European sky, Kodachrome 64 It was this trip to France in 1998 that got me back into Leica. I had bought a used R4 with 35mm Summicron and brought it along with my Canon gear. I shot the whole trip in K64. The Leica slides just jumped off the slide table compared to the Canon shots.

stuny Posted January 10, 2007 Share #2 Posted January 10, 2007 Rob - A good posting day for you. I've already found three I like. I also am most fond of the chateaus of the Loire Valley, and Azay le Rideau is among my favorites. This is far better than any I took of it, with its clarity, depth, colors, light and reflection. arthury Posted January 11, 2007 Share #3 Posted January 11, 2007 Yes, I agree that the contrast is fabulous and the overall 3D feel is very attractive, indeed. I need to get my Kodachrome going ... I just received 5 rolls in the mail.

garyp Posted January 11, 2007 Share #5 Posted January 11, 2007 Robert I saw those comments in the other forum about those skies from Kodachrome scans, definitely disagree with'em. Everyone sees things differently, of course, but those skies look mighty good to me. Being a long time Kodachrome user, I'll add that what I've seen from the DMR comes closer to K'chrome than anything, IMHO. BTW, which scanner are you using? Thanks GaryP
robsteve Posted January 11, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted January 11, 2007 I just did a couple tests with my 1D versus my DMR and also film. I think the Canon sky colours go a bit indigo in the deeper blue parts of the sky, while the film and DMR keep a more true colour throughout. I am using a Polaroid 4000 Plus scanner with Silverfast Ai 6.5. I also have the IT8 slides for the different film emulsions. The scans are just about perfect this way, except for the dust Most other scanner software including Vuescan take too much time afterwards in Photoshop to get the image as I like it. garyp Posted January 11, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sounds good, I know Doug [Herr] has also used that scanner. They turn up on Ebay from time to time. I just may have to try for one of'em.
