Will X1 Values Plummet When Leica Releases New EVIL Camera?

The X1 has the same sensor as the D300s, so it's not hardware related (the D300s has a great AF speed).

The D300s has a fast AF because it uses phase-detection, i.e. not the sensor. That’s not to say that the contrast-based AF of the X1 couldn’t be improved, just that comparisons with DSLRs using the same sensor are neither here nor there.

Please forgive the snide comments herein.

I went to the Pasadena camera show last Sunday and saw a vendor with the Digilux 4.3, Digilux 1, Digiux 2, and V-lux 1 on his table. My thought was what a cool collection of imaging tools. Assuming that the batteries still work and a memory card is available, all will still take pictures like the day they came out of the package. Great tools, and a great bargain for those who like to experiment with new toys.

Have some fun!

Who is this guy, bursting onto the scene claiming to have the amazing ability of essentializing this entire forums' history of postings into the conclusion that all of us, except for apparently me and a "minority" of fanboys, consider it a "CHRONIC FAILURE" and apparently just continue to hang around?

I'm the person who has been a member here for the past 10 years. I recently purchased a new computer and registered under a new name. I have used and owned Leica products over the past 45 years, and still do to this day!! I don't owe you or anybody any explanation! and I certainly don't need to prove my self, I only offer my point of views, in this hilarious X1 forum.

Are you the expert here? I tend to lay back and watch the BS un fold before I start posting nonsense. I notice 5 of you guys who are constantly posting and defending what (was) a great concept from leica ie; the X1. But as you have stated recently, your tone is finally changing from your original posts in regards to the X1's multiple limitation issues. Good for you! I'm glad to see your opening up your mind, there is still hope for you?

Wow, troll much? You needed a new user name with your new computer? Did you just pick that one to explicitly troll the X1 forum? Did you change it because in your "10 years here" you built up enough bad will to be called out immediately? Doesn't make much sense. Hey, you don't like the X1, that's great, to each their own, but why the need to troll the forum and bash it? Plenty of folks seem to like their's. Oh, and please, learn the difference between, "their", "there" and "they're".

Haha his original post was expletives, first edit added 10 years of forum experience without mention of a previous screen name, his second edit added 45 years to his camera experience, and yet you effectively point out that after all these edits- his spelling is still wrong! :D

We have an 8 year old troll on our hands who wants to drudge through the X1 forums, with an X1 screen name, bashing the X1, using language that clearly indexes that he doesn't own it.

Don't people have better things to do hahaha

Update: According to her public profile, now X1s is a female law enforcement officer in New York who owns an S2, M9, and X1! Quite a well paid cop! It's about time we paid them their due!

*X1 by far the best sensor/lens combination

IMHO this is the main point and should convince many people still on the fence.

Tks stnami

Sure it could be but ease of use is the X1's weakest area for me as I am a hit the aperture preferred mode, point a' shoot don't want to wrestle with the camera type of clicker. .........AF reigns

Interesting point. I'm polar opposite with regard to this. I bought because it was pretty much a a manual camera (with the exception of AF).

A manual camera, yes maybe a little, but that is definitely not a wise decision to buy an X1 or its strong points, it is apparent that you are a new bee to Leica, and the X1 is probably? the first leica camera you have ever owned, based on your (28 posts) made on this forum.

Well why not , it just goes to show you and the rest of the world looking in on this forum that its not a forum but a MONKEY F!@#$ session, ha ha ha

I've been here 10 years and I am not going anywhere soon, I'm just being amused at the validity of the posts on this forum by certain individuals, I'm just laughing and passing the time away, reading the same old thing over and over and over, its quite entertaining though to see the same characters, about (5) of you guys who seem to think you own this forum. I'm having a great time here, while I await to see my dog in the finals at Westminster on TV.

That's my preferred way as well. I wonder something.. I know you bought a gf-1 and I see the min shutter speed wide open as a flaw given the focal length. I'm very suprised that Panasonic never remedied that in a firmware update.

Leica has done the same thing.. no way to set a min shutter speed to 1/focal length as a minimum.. but the panasonic seems to do worse for me.

What are your thoughts on that? Has it been a problem or do you do a quick underexpose by 1/3 and pull it back for convenience (when environmental conditions allow)?

Yah, my problem arises when I'm trying to keep the iso down in lower light (to keep cleaner files).. but sometimes I'd rather go up 1/3 step and get the faster ss.

It's just a strange choice not to be able to set that option.. but then I find it odd that leica can't give us all shutter speeds or 1/3 shutter speeds to set as the lowest default with the x1.

It's not an issue when slowing down.. but at something like a party 1/30 on a 40mm equiv doesn't work so well always.

I underexposed by 2/3 this weekend in midday light, it was nowhere near enough... at least here the meter isn't so reliable in the gf-1.. but other cameras do poorly as well in those conditions..they just aren't off by 1 1/3 stops.

Thanks for the info.

New to Leica, sure, but not new to cameras or photography. What's the big deal? I like it because it's a camera and not a gadget, as expressed earlier. Didn't like my other compacts because there was too much menu involved. And IQ clearly was the biggest influencer, if not expressly called out. Why do you care any way, it's clear you don't like the camera. That's fine, it's your choice.
