Just a quick note of thanks to everybody for coming along - especially those who travelled some distance - and making it, for me, a very pleasant day.

Special thanks to Red Dot Cameras (Ivor) for its hospitality and for bringing the D-Lux 5 and V-Lux 2 for us to play with.

Noel, Mike and I ended up at the Ashburnham Arms, which was filled with 2 groups of very friendly Morrismen in full dancing attire who danced more in the garden as they drank more. They were willing photographic subjects and when I mentioned how accommodating they were, one large, clog-wearing beardy Morrisman with a straw boater decorated with bright red and orange flowers and a bright red cummerbund humourously said to me "When you're dressed up like a prat you'd better be prepared for people to want to take you photo. Shoot away."

It rounded off the day very pleasantly.:)

Yes, a most enjoyable day inspite of two train cancellations and someone pulling the emergency alarm on the replacement train when it didn't stop at their station ! As usual the hospitality was great thanks to everyone.

I should have stayed for the Morris dancers. After I'd left everyone here's a shot from Greenwich market ... "A face amongst the crowd".

Great picture, Bob. There are certainly a lot of opportunities at the market.

Thanks to Pete for making the arrangements and Ivor for his hospitality. A very enjoyable day for my part and it was good to meet up with everybody.

Regards

Mike

Thanks Pete for arranging a most enjoyable day, and thanks to Ivor for the drinks all round.

It was good to see a lot of the old faces and also a few new ones.

Best wishes - George

Looks like you all had fun. Apologies for pulling out at the last moment but after a particularly hectic week I just found it impossible to get going yesterday.

As Pete has already mentioned, the Morris Men at the pub were a jolly and social crowd, which rather changed my previous view of them. They featured in my favourite TV advert of all time in which at first they are seen dancing, but at the end they hit each other over the heads with their sticks and all fall unconscious. The tagline was “Only Heineken can do this!”, which rather suggests that I have not been alone in my prejudice. :D

During one of their dances, one Morris Man did accidentally hit another of his colleagues, so it is clearly more dangerous than it looks. Cage Morris Dancing, anyone? :)

It seems that being a Morris Man has its advantages as it involves, among other things, drinking quantities of beer - a lot of them even have their own tankards clipped to their belts. Fortunately for me, I discovered these forum get togethers first. ;)

Regards

Mike
