Louis,

No, Greenwich mainline railway station, which is right next door to the Greenwich DLR station (not Cutty Sark station). It's a Saturday so it should be open and according to the TfL website there are no Engineering works planned for DLR on Saturday 9/10.

Actually Tube Engineering works are quite light for the weekend with only Central, Piccadilly and Victoria lines affected. More info here.

Pete.

Okay, here are the details I promised for the Greenwich meet:

Date: Saturday 9th October

When: 11.30

Where: Meet at Puccino's cafe in Greenwich mainline station. You can't miss it, it's just inside the main door on the left when entering from the street. Greenwich DLR station is right next door. Planned Tube Engineering works here.

What: A little weather-dependent but when fully fortified with coffee/tea/something stronger/all of the above, take a leisurely stroll up to the Greenwich Observatory where there is the opportunity to:

- take in the Royal Observatory and stare in awe and wonderment at the exhibits. (Perhaps slightly less for those over 12.)

- bask in the superb view over London (cloud etc permitting)

- re-fortify

- take lunch

- stand with one foot in the West and one foot in the East (not to be missed:rolleyes:)

Then leisurely stroll back down to the Old Royal Naval College, stroll amongst the impressive architecture and pop into the Painted Hall - still free admission. (There is a film shoot at the College until 10th October so we might need to make a small detour to avoid being run down by people in period costumes in hansom cabs and irate security staff.)

I've found a very promising hostelry near the railway station to refortify called the Ashburnham Arms. They normally do good food but on Saturday will be hosting a group of Bell Ringers and a group of Morris Dancers on their end of season bash so food's off although I'm informed that interesting photo opportunities are on the cards. And if you fancy having your bells rung ... wey-hey!

Nearby in Royal Hill is the Richard the First, which is also promising and a couple of other hostelries so if nourishment is called for or the Asburnham becomes crowded we can retreat.

All of the above is no more than a starter for ten and if the group wishes to include something else such as looking through the outdoor or indoor markets or do something completely different then we can sort it out on the day.

So far the Possibles are:

They're filming the latest installment of Pirates of the Caribbean in Greenwich at the moment - Johnny Depp has been reported as being around the place so prepare to lapse into paparazzi mode if you see him...

I shan't be joining you unfortunately as I shall be down at Greenwich Yacht Club on Saturday to sort out the winter moorings for my boat. Your itinerary is familiar to me (regular Sunday pm stroll) so I look forward to seeing your captures.

I'm out, I'm afraid. The weekend has arrived and I still have much to do before next week. I'll look forward to catching up with at least some of you next weekend, however ;)

Regards,

Bill

 How will I explain your absence to Johnny Depp? He'll be hornswoggled!

Shame, but see you next weekend, Bill.

I'm going to try to make this, but I've been shopping today so I'm not sure how my legs will hold up. I'll know better in the morning. I may have to resort to a taxi from Greenwich station through the park and to the top of Observatory Hill. Anyone's welcome to join/share if I do. :).

Apologies from me too. Really wanted to make this as it would have been my last London meet as a "local".

But life happens........

The next one I will be an "out-of-towner, from The Land of Syn."

Brian, Dominic, and Andy,

Sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it this time. I suppose we'll just have to drink your share for you.:D Hope to see you next time.

"The Land of Syn", Andy? Dr Syn and Romney Marsh perhaps?
