Harvester

There was a time, within the memory of the oldest inhabitants, when most of the village would have turned out to help at harvest time. Now one skilled operator and a very capable machine can do it by themselves. Raising the wheat dust here is the John Deere Hillmaster II snapped at half zoom with the V-Lux 1.

This is an excellent photograph! There is something compelling about seeing specialized machinery in action, up close. Unfortunately, most shots of these beauts are static, or from a far distance. I love the composition, colors, farmer's silhouette, dusty horizon, sharpness....good eye!

Stuart has a good point about few visitors here. I wish there could be a new sub-forum or someplace where the moderators could place, on a weekly or monthly basis, a very few outstanding shots (their choice) from the quieter forums. Call it Moderators Weekly Favorites. Include a link to the original post, where new comments could be added. There would be 3 direct benefits:

1: A great shot, no matter the subject, would get the views and comments it deserves.

2: A great shot such the harvester photo would encourage more viewers to visit the quieter forums (in this case, Techno and Industry).

3. The moderators will see their efforts appreciated by both the photographers and the viewers.

Stuart, what do you think?

Euston,

A marvelous picture with perfect composition, colors, sharpness and action. A classic.

Larry,

A good suggestion. I agree with your idea. IMHO, this would create a pick and choose program that will still leave a lot of fine images left in the dust of inattention.

As I see it, there are so many posts in a day, that very few have the time or energy to visit them all, so they select the picture sub-forums that they are interested in. This is happening to me as well. I wish I had the time to look at them all.

Thank you, everyone, for the reception you’ve given this photo. I’m delighted!

Larry, I agree it would be good to find a way of getting more traffic to the less frequented photo forums. I’m not so sure, though, about placing the moderators in the invidious position of making the choice of pictures to showcase.

Stuart, I’m happy for it to stay where it is. The driver is essential to the picture but not really the main subject.

I am aware that photos like this are not everybody’s cup of tea. Larry and I may have to put up with the fact that not everyone shares our enthusiasm for machinery. I come here for the maritime subjects as much as anything. Larry’s beautifully made pictures are always a draw and }{B is showing some very strong photos. The people who never visit this forum don’t know what they’re missing.
