...Huê (Central Vietnam) August 2010

You can see the mountain where is the "Ho Chi Minh road" , on the border between Vietnam and Laos..

This track has been built and being used by the Vietnamese fighters during the war with the Americans !

a tragic place which has regained its calm and beauty today .

Henri -

Lovely shot. I've long maintianed that the Lao are probably the friendliest people on Earth, which is all the more amazing when one realizes some of the horrors my country inflicted on Laos during the Vietnam war. this is what Barbara wrote about one such location:

On November 24, 1968 during the U.S. - Vietnam war, 300 Lao died in a natural cave where they had sought shelter from the bombing of their town when the U.S. exploded a rocket in it. We hiked through a field and climbed up to Tham Piew cave, where a bleached skull marks a shrine to the dead. There are no souvenir stands or plaques - just a stark reminder of the cruelties of war.

Olsen, you are right

There has been a deadly place and sad memory .

Here is an excerpt from an article * on this period :

"During the entire war, the U.S. will fly 3 million sorties and drop nearly 8 million tons of bombs, four times the tonnage dropped during all of World War II, in

the largest display of firepower in the history of warfare".

Fortunately in 2010, it becomes an extremely beautiful place and peace is now among the population

Stuart,

The commentary of Barbara is right.

The U.S. bombing also hit Laos since the "Ho Chi Minh Trail" is on the border of Vietnam and Laos

Thank you Olsen and Stuart for looking and for your comments

Doc, the serenity of both frames belie the horrors that have visited this fine place. I fear that even today, may don't take this seriously enough.

Ben, thank you :)

The central region of Vietnam is an area that I recommend if you visit one day ....and you have beautiful landscapes

people are quiet and kind, unlike other regions of the country.
