Advertisement Posted January 7, 2007 Posted January 7, 2007 Hi jmr, Take a look here Grocer. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
azzo Posted January 12, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted January 12, 2007 John, I'd really like to see this one just for curiosity in a square format. Cropped slightly from below, from the top, cropped till above the windows and converted in B&W but punched up a bit. Â Best Azzo

elansprint72 Posted January 12, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted January 12, 2007 John, Don't you find it remarkable that places like this still exist? I suppose we should take all of our holidays in France and capture it before it disappears. Well seen, and Azzo made a good observation. Someone once said "One exposure, twenty photographs"........ Â Cheers, Pete. Â Â ...... btw, it was me who said that
jmr Posted January 12, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted January 12, 2007 Someone once said "One exposure, twenty photographs"........ Â Pete, Â very wise. Yes, I too like the way Azzo's suggestion has turned-out.
Rolo Posted January 13, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted January 13, 2007 John, Â I agree that Azzo's suggestion is a step forward, but I couldn't stop wishing that there was an improvement to be made in the colour version of this very nice scene that you've captured. Â I played with it and like the way this was going so I thought I'd share it with you. It might be a bit strong in colour, or that might be a variation of colour that you could adopt and the square is still an option. However, I think it is beginning to stand up as a folio print a bit better in my view. Â Hope you don't mind me playing, but I thought it might kick a few more ideas off for you. azzo Posted January 13, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Rolo, Â I'm not sure if your version is a step forward from the original. You have eliminated something which at least to me was very pleasing to the eye. Have another look at the original and the B&W one, it was never a frontal shot but slightly from the right side. Also, i know you played on a small file but it looks a bit broken and not right. Another thing i notice is that you like pushing the colour a bit too far sometimes, and IMHO, it doesn't work on all types of images. Some images can take it, but not all. I also think that it would have been nicer to ask permission from the author before posting your version. I'd like to see what John and others have to say re your version. Â Best, Â Azzo. azzo Posted January 13, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted January 13, 2007 John, Â As you know, i didn't want to comment after you've tried the b&w version, but now it seems that i have to. I had seen your image posted but hesitated for some days before suggesting my idea. I knew that it would work out and went ahead, and i'm glad i did suggest finally. It has turned out to be a beautiful B&W image with alot of detail, full tonal range and most importantly, a very nice perspective. Very well seen, composed and captured. Â Best Azzo. My enthusiasm to help swept me away and I thought you might appreciate it.  However, I've just made a late New Year's resolution never to play with other people's images again.  Regards to both you and Azzo. jmr Posted January 13, 2007 Author Share #10 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Rolo, Â thanks for the image, your action in making it was welcome. I work on the principle that if you don't want others to change your images you should say so in the post. For my part, I'm more than happy for the input. I agree with Azzo about the off centre-line aspect of the shot, and with you about there being more in the colour version. I actually quite liked the crop suggested by Azzo, but in colour. Â Â Overall though, I think the b&w has it for me. Thanks to you both.

elansprint72 Posted January 13, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted January 13, 2007 Nice. Really nicely done John. Pete was right after all. Â Best Azzo. So, another sixteen still to come. Â I think we had a discussion a while back and the consensus was: if you don't want folks to mess with your images, tell 'em up front; otherwise, we are all open to helpful, well-intentioned adjustments. Â Cheers, Pete.
John Maio Posted January 13, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted January 13, 2007 I too like the B&W version better. There was something about those red brick patterns on the extreme right of the original that kept drawing my eye from the depth of the image. Â Nice work!
