Robert Hooper Posted August 24, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 24, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was wondering how long it would take for an enterprising entrepreneur to replicate the hard to find and outrageously expensive Leica SNHOO adapter ring. It allows E39 filters to be fitted to the 50mm Summitar lens which normally requires vintage odd shaped filters, specific to the Summitar. I just ordered one and hope the threads are the proper pitch. Do a search on eBay for SNHOO.
Advertisement Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Hi Robert Hooper, Take a look here SNHOO Filter Adapter Ring, (Summitar). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest mc_k Posted August 25, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 25, 2010 The price is certainly right. There may not be enough threading to fit well. But I use a lot of his products. S. K. Grimes can also make this.
Robert Hooper Posted August 25, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted August 25, 2010 "There may not be enough threading to fit well" Good point. I'll post a report of my impression after I receive the product.

Well, this may not be a very practical approach, but I think the special filters for the Summitar fit so well to the elegant design of this lens that I should rather search for the original filters than for any adapter. Robert Hooper Posted August 26, 2010 Author Share #8 Posted August 26, 2010 Well, this may not be a very practical approach, but I think the special filters for the Summitar fit so well to the elegant design of this lens that I should rather search for the original filters than for any adapter. I agree with you regarding the machined quality of the genuine Leica Summitar chrome covered brass filter rings, but often the housed vintage glass filter has deteriorated beyond practical use. Also, modern filters have far superior anti-reflective coatings.
