Advertisement Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 Hi Guest stnami, Take a look here Stalemate. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest stnami Posted August 17, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted August 17, 2010 I am ....... because i shoot with intent these days after a bit of a carpet bomb session when digital first came out I went back to shooting as in the film days. Thinking, shooting with intent, with an aim or goal in mind
NZDavid Posted August 17, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted August 17, 2010 Just did a session and shot a whole heap, that's what you do with digital! Why so many? Not just angle and exposure, expressions of subject -- but with the X1 I find I need more than with film in order to ensure correct focus (hopefully) and exposure. Fewer pictures with more thought is a noble aim, not always achievable.
jsrockit Posted August 17, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted August 17, 2010 I photograph every day. I don't know why... I just like to do it and it fills in my spare time nicely. I need to spend more time processing and editing though... but that's just not as fun as being out there in the world.
Nicoleica Posted August 17, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted August 17, 2010 Am I a good photographer? Well, others seem to like some of my work (Enough to give me money for them anyway.), but I normally feel that I could always do better. As far as digital is concerned, this has made very little difference to my camera use practices, as I still intend every shot to be a 'keeper' and have never yet succumbed to using AK47 mode. (Too many years of using film, and using cameras without 'Auto-everything' I expect.) To me, the major benefits of digital come afterwards. With ease of printing at the top of the list. (To the point where I take a little portable printer with me on holidays so that I can make my own postcards to send.)
andym911 Posted August 17, 2010 Share #6  Posted August 17, 2010 I think I am technically good, going from Film to final print or from Digital to final print.  The end results are very rewarding. However am only documenting my children and family so in terms of photographic creativity lots of room to move up:D  Those X1 versus everything threads are sould destroying  andy

What printer do you use? I came across Polaroid PoGo™ Instant Mobile Printer. Is it good?  Those X1 versus everything threads are sould destroying  No need to be destroyed. Just leave them there. Nicoleica Posted August 17, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted August 17, 2010 It sounds cool. What printer do you use? I came across Polaroid PoGoâ„¢ Instant Mobile Printer. Is it good? Â I use a Canon ES-1 with its internal battery pack. It's a few years old now, so I expect later ones may be even better. The beauty is that it has a review/editing screen, takes SDHC and CF cards, and the paper is pre-printed on the back as a post-card. I've never tried the Polaroid printer though. jsrockit Posted August 17, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted August 17, 2010 I bought a PoGo, but don't have a compatible camera yet... (damn Leicas). However, I would never use it as a main printer... it is more of a fun thing to me since they are sticker based papers.
Guest stnami Posted August 17, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted August 17, 2010 Doesn't take long to get into gear head mode on any thread here !!
h00ligan Posted August 18, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted August 18, 2010 Well I cant say I am good at it yet, but I shoot daily and learn daily..it's good for me at least! I think I occasionally make a photo that is worth showing others. Hopefully that number goes up
phancj Posted August 18, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted August 18, 2010 While I am quite sure that I am not winning any photo contests any time soon, I am sure I am taking much better pics than all my previous and current DSLR. I know it has been said too many times, but the X1 is almost always with me, and the fixed lens is so refreshing I am seriously looking at buying a 35mm prime for my DSLR too. nigelb Posted August 18, 2010 Share #14 Â Posted August 18, 2010 Am I good at taking photographs? I would like to think so after 40 years of photography, especially as I teach and lecture in photography and have had my work exhibited on a number of occasions. After much use of 6x7 and some use of 5"x4" over the years, I have learned to be a more considered photographer, taking great care at the time of shooting and even though I am now completely digital, I don't use AK47 mode (nice term Nicoleica). Often I can go off for a whole day's shooting and come back with 20-30 images. My hit rate is high - I simply can't understand people who rattle off 3000 photographs at a time, I couldn't cope with this volume of images. Â It's the Digilux 2 that has brought any occasional straying from this back into line. Its a photographer's camera and makes me think about the image rather than the equipment, I wish I'd discovered it much earlier. Â Nigel

Guest badbob Posted August 19, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted August 19, 2010 The X1 is definitely a piece of gear, with special gear requirements even. Not as flexible as EVIL cameras, so you have to adopt a special "X1" technique to get the best results. You could look at that from the pre-digital perspective if you like, but that's not what I would choose to do. I'm just realistic and realize that not only does the X1 require special technique, but there are rewards in the images from doing the work.
