likalar Posted August 13, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 13, 2010 Cameraquest.com lists the body info as a Leica llla from 1937, a batch of 600 of them. The lens is from a competing company, Nikon. Consider putting it to use. It may be in need of a CLA (clean, lube, adjust) to get it working properly, or it just may be good to go as is. lars_bergquist Posted August 13, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 13, 2010 I agree with Larry. The camera body is from 1937, but many well-kept Leicas from that era are still in fierly regular use. The lens however (you did not state the focal length) is postwar, and coded. Nikon optics began acheiving penetration in the West after famous photojournalist David Douglas Duncan shot his entire book about the Korean War, This is War, with Leica bodies but all Nikon lenses. Nikon optics at that time had more contrast or 'snap' than most Leica lenses of the time, which were traditionally optimized for resolution, as was the case with all European manufacturers. So, the lens is coated, and probably quite good. If the rig is in fair shape, and old devils Rust and Fungus have been kept away, it is worth bringing up to full function. And using it would be fun.
