Strange closure of a thread

A new member of this forum asked about details of an old Leica Camera.

http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-collectors-historica/135290-i-have-what-i-think-1935-a.html#post1412300

As he seemed already very well informed it was difficult to answer his question.

In the first and only reply he was asked to check the "sticky" links to sites with infomation about serial numbers. The thread was closed then.

I don't understand this. If the new member followed the advise to check serial numbers on other sites, he might have found Summilux.net, giving the dates he already knew and had written in his posting.

Closing the thread leaves no chance to discuss, whether the new member's information about the camera is wrong, what he might learn new abot the camera and what are his plans to do with it.

I could well agree with closing the thread if it had the intent just to sell the camera; those postings are a nuisance. But I find no sign of such an intent in the new member's first posting. He just asked for information. That's what the forum is about. May be he wanted to prepare an offer to sell it; i don't know. As long as we don't know that somebody misuses the forum for any commercial intent, we should give everybody a chance to show that he has more interest in the topics of this forum.

Or am I wrong?

Comes with Leitz Rangefinder

Clearly implies that this is an offer for sale.

Further, if you read the stickies that we did in the Collectors' sub-forum, you will see why the thread was closed. It could just as easily have been deleted.

...not too sure about the perceived implication, but I will defer to your superior knowledge in this matter. Thanks, Andy.

Maybe somebody did not like a part of the signature in the first and only reply ...

I did not say that there is something wrong with his signature, I said maybe somebody did not like a part of it (c.f. a very long thread in the German Leica Forum)...

There are a few people who have added "Leica Ambassador" to their signature. You have the advantage over me, as I have no idea what has been discussed about this on the German side of the forum.

It's absolutely nothing to get worked up about, IMHO.

Sorry for giving this impression.

I didn't even realize any signature, and for sure I don't see any cause to react on it. As I have said before in the german Forum, I don't have any critizism against any member of this forum who was or is supposed to be an "Leica Ambassador".

My only cause to comment on the closure of the thread was my impression that it was rather unclear if it was just a question for information or advertizing. I can well accept that someone else saw more signs for advertizing than I found.
