nyckylim Posted August 12, 2010 Share #1  Posted August 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey Guys,  I realised that when it comes to cases for the X1, it usually boils down to either Leica's original case or Luigi. However, after doing some search, I've found the following cases that might help some of you guys.  P.S: Luigi fans, please do not flame me as I'm not sure if this is a replica of Luigi. But anyhows, its pretty neat.  Artisan & Artist  Sqinno  JnK  Hope this helps.  Cheers Nycky
Advertisement Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Hi nyckylim, Take a look here 3 New Leica X1 Cases. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JanCderidder Posted August 12, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted August 12, 2010 A&A are to expensive with all their stuff .... I like the JnK possibilities though, could find a price but looks nice. Â Thanks for the link
prk60091 Posted August 12, 2010 Share #3  Posted August 12, 2010 A&A are to expensive with all their stuff .... I like the JnK possibilities though, could find a price but looks nice. Thanks for the link  the a&a is less than luigi's and it doesn't look like it has a back flap or snaps on the side (both are pluses in my book i would never use the black flap therefore the snaps are useless to me and destroy the lines of the case) . as a negative for the a&a it doesnt have a tripod mount according to the photos  luigi makes spectacular stuff- i had one of his cases for my D2 -
JanCderidder Posted August 12, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted August 12, 2010 I find Luigi expensive as well, but the cases are top quality and look nice. I have one for my M8... for the X1 however I chose a Lowepro ($15) one that is small and fits the viewfinder. Â Maybe I will get a Luigi for that as well .... some day
tom0511 Posted August 12, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted August 12, 2010 I also own the Leica x1 leather bag but now use one of the following hama bags all the time and its perfect: http://www.hama.de/portal/choice*28232/action*512 Â It is good protection, doesnt draw much attention, doesnt add tou much bulk, is light and doesnt cost much money. Its also very fast to get the x1 out of the bag. The bag takes the x1 + a spare battery. Great and cheap. Anybody wants to buy my leather Leica bag? (I like the retro look of the Leica bag, but the use is slower, it is more bulky, and adds less protection
BB W Posted August 12, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted August 12, 2010 Thank you Nycky! Â Here is an ebay link for JnK JnK-handworks. half-case for Leica X1 - eBay (item 220641378565 end time Aug-20-10 17:24:22 PDT) where the price is $180, extra for certain colors, and although it says free shipping if you scroll down it says they do not recommend free shipping because there's no tracking. No tripod mount on this one either. Â That second one you referred to as Sqinno, does look nice, is very simple and apparently has a tripod mount. If anyone here buys one please report back! Â Luigi is definitely expensive. His workmanship is very nice, however. I like the idea of the back flap to help with screen protection.
msbel Posted August 13, 2010 Share #7 Â Posted August 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Been using the A&A half case for a month or so, and for me, perfect. The Luigi full case is gorgeous, but a no go for the OVF. I paired it up with a knotted A&A silk strap, fits snugly under my arm, and voila, barely noticed and easy to swing out. Â If I am putting loose in my bag, I use a rangefinder designed neoprene case I cannot remember the name of. Fits over the whole setup, including the half case, OVF, and the extended Summarit hood; Â a snug, padded fit, and the A&A strap is perfect, and it carries very inconspicuously. nyckylim Posted August 13, 2010 Author Share #8 Â Posted August 13, 2010 I am deciding between these 3 brands. Leaning a little more towards the JnK. Â Anyone else have experience with any of this brands ? Â Nycky

BB W Posted August 13, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted August 13, 2010 Thank you, Nycky! I'm not sure what Mr. Jnk means by the "whole cover" here 1. type A. X1 half-case Type A. - USD 180.00 Whole Cover (for type A) - USD 90.00 Â Â msbel, if you could possibly reach deep within your memory banks for the name of that neoprene rangefinder case, I'd love to see what it is. Â I like the idea of a case that this camera can easily slip out of - even a pouch of some sort. I'm using a neoprene lens pouch now but it's not an easy in and out at all. Â Thank you both for your input.
Danielsan Posted August 14, 2010 Share #11 Â Posted August 14, 2010 thanks for the links, they look all three pretty good but i think ill go with the JnK Type A & Cover. I wrote him a mail about the price and manufactoring time. I think brown with beige stitching looks the best or whine brown. Â with the "whole cover" you can transform the half case into a full case. Its a leather piece that wraps around the full case including the lens, looks nice and really noble in brown. There is a picture of the whole cover on their web site. Â The A&A looks weird, black leather with pink inside? The same with the lizard leather on the JnK, a bit too much i think.
RichardM8 Posted August 14, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted August 14, 2010 I'm waiting for Luigi to make a full leather case for the X1 due sept/oct according to him (but he's Italian so... :-) ). Â I've been using the brown leather 'hard case' from Leica and after some 2 months of intensive use it's turns out to be much better and more convenient than I thought. Very easy & quick in and out and the lens-dome is more than protective enough to leave the annoying lens-hood at home. And I think it looks very retro cool and different but that's personal. It can be used with a shoulder strap (that doen't slide off), from a belt or just with a wrist strap. Good value imo! Â As far as I can see on their site A&A don't offer a (half)case for the X1 yet? Btw I don't get these half cases. They seem to protect the parts of the camera that need the least protection.
BB W Posted August 14, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted August 14, 2010 Thanks Danielsan. I'll have to go back and take a look. If I recall, none work with the viewfinder, alas. Â Richard, I think the case you have looks perfect - if only it held the viewfinder on the camera, too, I would buy it.

FenderP Posted September 30, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted September 30, 2010 I have the Luigi case with the grip and while the workmanship on the case itself is very nice and I love the leather, it's not the best fit for the X1. The part at the top is too thick and comes down to far (so it isn't an exact fit), making it hard to sometimes hit the Play button. With the leather being so thick, getting at the focus dial isn't a snap either. Â I do like the snap thing on the back to cover the screen - it saves me from buying a protector. Â I am thinking of trying another case, The JnK intrigues me, but I'm leaning towards the A&A. Â Don't get me wrong - the Luigi case may be 100% perfect for someone else, but it's not quite the case I think fits my needs.
jafleming3 Posted September 30, 2010 Share #17 Â Posted September 30, 2010 If you want the half-case, the A&A is the only way to go. It fits like a glove, is elegant, well made, and unobtrusive. I give it my highest recommendation. Â Note: You'll need to remove it to get to the battery or SD card.
nippa Posted September 30, 2010 Share #18 Â Posted September 30, 2010 I have the two Leica brand cases and both are good. For me the Grey ERC is the most useful as the camera is completely protected in use with the handgrip and viewfinder nicely stored ( if put in the right way! ). The whole thing can slip inside a jacket pocket.

On a good day when my waistline is smaller maybe my pants will start pulling down from its weight...  But yes, I think it offers excellent protection. Very sturdy and interior , loads of plush...
