andym911 Posted August 12, 2010 Share #21 Posted August 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) So you print a 40x30 color or B&W Print, frame it, hang it on your wall, step back to a distance to admire (say 6-10 feet) and you see a higher quality print when comparing the M9 and 50mm Cron shot and the M8 with the 35mm Cron shot? I don't think so but am genuinely curious Andy
Advertisement Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Hi andym911, Take a look here M9 and M8: practical difference?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Manolo Laguillo Posted August 12, 2010 Share #22 Posted August 12, 2010 I had an M8.2, and when the M9 arrived after waiting some months, I sold it (the M8.2;)) I bought the M9 because I need/want bigger prints. If I would not need/want A3+, I would still have the M9. But having said that, it's also true that using the 18, 25, 35, 50... "as they are" is wonderful (and cheaper, as Adan wisely says!) And that the soft release mode of the M9 is terrific. And that the higher sensitivities perform much better on the M9... I only miss the better framing of the M8.2, and its rougher "leather" when compared with the smaller grain structure of the gray M9's material (I do prefer silver than black cameras)

newtoleica Posted August 13, 2010 Share #24 Posted August 13, 2010 I've been reading this thread with interest, as it may help to inform my decision on a back up camera for my M9. I've switched from Nikon and am now using an M9, 24 Elmarit, 35 Lux ASPH v1, 50 Lux ASPH, 75 Cron APO ASPH. Very happy. I've sold all my Nikon gear as I can't justify the capital cost of both systems. However, I do feel a bit exposed with just the single body, that if it should go wrong, may leave me without a camera for a few weeks. I travel a lot on business and have a number of brief, fixed, but good opportunities for photography, so missing one of these with no camera would be a real pain...... I hate point and shoot cameras, I've never been able to do anything creative with them and I don't want to have a 2nd system dragging about, so it has to be another M body. The question is which? 2nd M9 - Would be ideal, but hard to source and expensive, so probably not a sensible option. M8 - Keeps digital workflow, crop factor might be a useful 'extra' as I'd have a longer lens with my 75 (but surely just the same as cropping an 18MP M9 image). Noise and DR not as good. Have to fiddle with filters (which I don't use otherwise). Older M8 might prove unreliable, but they are around for £1500-1700, so MUCH cheaper than an M9 M7 or MP - I no longer have the time or space for a film workflow and I've never been happy with scanned film as it seems to be the worst of both worlds. Hmmmm, decisions......
Jeff S Posted August 13, 2010 Share #25 Posted August 13, 2010 Older M8 might prove unreliable, but they are around for £1500-1700, so MUCH cheaper than an M9 Or, an upgraded M8, or an M8.2, each progressively higher priced, but currently well below the M9. Viv Posted August 13, 2010 Share #26 Posted August 13, 2010 Yes, exactly the same. No advantage.
