Good Afternoon,

I'm a new L-Camera Forum member, glad to be joining... and excited to say I'm picking up my new X1 this Thursday afternoon.

After much research and review I still think this is a terrific camera based on image output and ease of use. It will be used as a primary travel camera due to it's compact size and weight. I fully understand the X1's limitations but still welcome joining the ranks of satisfied X1 users.

Any suggestions for a new user? Waiting for a Leica viewfinder to come into stock but did pick up an X1 grip. Thanks for any suggestions or input.

I'm looking forward to contributing to the forum.

Best wishes,

Jim

enjoy it. I just got mine 300 frames ago (2 weeks)

i took it out yesterday to the park and i havent had as much fun taking photos - since i was a kid

the ooc jpgs are outrageous (in a good way)- unless you like the digital darkroom try using it jpg only (i know that is blasphemous in this or any "serious photographer forum".

but the jpgs are incredible.... and i prefer spending my time taking photos not fixing them up on my macbook.... once again my membership to this forum may be revoked (just kidding) but yesterday outside at the park i set the ASA @100 the aperture @ 2.8 and the shutter at A - Auto Focus and spent my time framing the photos-

Jim, I think you'll be very happy. I know that it was a big decision for me to buy this camera because I didn't really need it and, for most of us, it's expensive. That said, once I tried it and uploaded my photos on to my computer and saw the detail and quality, I was blown away.

Looking forward to hearing more from you on Thursday, so first thing you do is charge that battery!:D

I've had mine since about July 28th or so.

The OOC JPEG's are good, but very few people take the perfect photo every time, so post processing is necessary for most people. If you have a Mac you can probably make simple edits without degrading the JPEG's significantly, but you have to be careful.

For me, living in AZ, the problem is how bright things are. It's really tough to get away with a shot during imperfect hours here without using some form of recovery in lightroom - at least that's been my experience. I should add this is what I've noticed with any camera, the x1 is very good for headroom and recovery.. a big plus for me.

Ditto my experience in Arizona, around Monument Valley etc. The contrast was really extreme there, and you'd almost need HDR to capture shadows and highlights both.
