Ok- legitimate thing to be fixed with FW update

If I have the LCD off b/c the external VF - or even if I don't- why is the aperture constantly adjusting on it's own? Will this likely be fixed? What a battery waste in between shots...

 

It's adjusting only when the camera moves, yes? Because it's set to auto-aperture?

Even if you have it set on a fixed aperture it does it. I would guess that's for the LCD preview. But if I have it on auto aperture and the LCD off because I have an electronic viewfinder- I don't want it to auto adjust then either because I don't need a preview. Currently it adjusts even if the LCD if off or if it's on a fixed aperture. That should be set right in the FW update.

 

FW update GURUS- is that possible?

The same thing occurs in the Ricoh GXR and since the same module made by Sony is used in both I strongly suspect it is in the Sony OEM firmware. Since Ricoh hasn't fixed this despite similar complaints it may not be available to the OEM and they may have to wait for Sony to make the change for them. It really messes up MF because it stops down in bright sun light and you can't be sure of the focus point no matter what you set the aperture to.

You have an electronic viewfinder on this camera? How does that work and, if I may ask, what kind is it? It's powered by the X1?

Nice catch- sorry I mean optical viewfinder. Click below to see. Someone talked about making an optical viewfinder from the HDMI port. I wouldn't mess with it. I prefer optical anyway.

Oh no problem, for a minute there I thought I'd missed something - I would have loved an EVF. I find I'm having quite a steep learning curve trying to use the ovf and the screen. I find myself focusing and metering via the screen and then attempting to look through the optical viewfinder...which doesn't work to well unless you have a very deep depth of field. I'm sure I'll find my way, eventually.

Olympus has manufactured one for their 4/3 cameras.

However, it would take someone with more money and talent than myself to create the hack to make it work on the X1.

Nope. Never had this problem in 2 months of constant use. How exactly are you Selecting the new setting?

 

(By the way, three buttons work to select a new ISO; the Menu/Set button, the Shutter-release button, as well as the ISO button itself).

I've been using the Menu button to make my selection. I'll try the ISO button and shutter button to see if I have better results.

To select auto iso you have to be using aperture or shutter priority, setting both disallows auto iso, which was confusing for a bit to me.
