JeTexas Posted August 2, 2010 Share #1 Posted August 2, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I do a lot of sailing along with some snorkeling and scuba. Has anyone found an underwater case or bag to take the X1 swimming yet?
Advertisement Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hi JeTexas, Take a look here Taking the X1 swimming. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
h00ligan Posted August 3, 2010 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2010 Hmm, limited production niche product - I hate to say it but I doubt you'll find anything MADE for the x1.. I have no experience with pouches or bags (if they exist). It's hard enough to find the housing for more mainstream cameras! Good luck in your search, sorry not to be of any help. Cerrito Kid Posted August 7, 2010 Share #3 Posted August 7, 2010 Don't do it. It isn't a cheap camera and you don't want to be sorry. Buy a cheap waterproof camera.
sikde Posted August 7, 2010 Share #4 Posted August 7, 2010 Agree with Cerrito Kid. The X1 is too expensive Perhaps you could consider some cheaper alternatives: YouTube - Kanal von DigitalRevCom They also do a review of the X1 here: YouTube - Kanal von DigitalRevCom
wda Posted August 7, 2010 Share #5 Posted August 7, 2010 Why try with an X1? Under-water is not its natural domain. It seems that you are very experienced in the water, so I agree with others, use an expendable camera.
JeTexas Posted August 7, 2010 Author Share #6 Posted August 7, 2010 If I never took the camera anywhere it might get hurt, I'd never take any photos. I currently use a Fujifilm f50fd underwater, but the image quality is lacking. My choice is either invest in the underwater housing for my aging Nikon D70s or for the X1. As my X1 is new, I was planning to go that direction as I don't want to buy more gear for an older camera that may get replaced soon. However, it looks like that may be the way I have to go. ChiILX1 Posted August 10, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) EWA Marine has always had a long line of underwater housings for cameras. I'd write them to ask if anything they have could fit the X1 or if they are developing one.
tom0511 Posted August 12, 2010 Share #8 Posted August 12, 2010 I contacted EWA MArine but they recommended me the wrong bag - I am now in contact with them to find the right one. I wouldnt scuba with it but want it to go canooing. Other than that I can really recommend the small Panasonic water proof camera. But sometimes you want that last little bit of IQ - thats why I plan to get an EWA MArine for my x1. Regards, Tom
JeTexas Posted August 12, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted August 12, 2010 Well, there's now a full-fledged scuba one for the Panasonic GF1. X-2 Housing GIves You a (Relatively) Compact View 250 Feet Underwater And here's one that would fit the V-Lux 20 (although not available in the U.S. yet.) Panasonic DMW-MCTZ10E - Marine case for digital photo: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo I might end up investing in a V-Lux 20 and housing as it can do double duty with some video. It's just annoying that I'll have to use a separate camera for this.
