As we may know, LR3 is now available as a free download from Leica. Sadly it is not available to anybody who bought an X1 before august 2010. Those that did can only download LR2. Leica emailed me:

Dear Sir.

Thank you very much for your inquiry at Leica CS-Support.

Sorry, because your Lightroom license has been activated before 06/08/2010 (camera purchase date 03/27/2010) and so the latest version at that time constituted, we can under the license agreements with the manufacturer Adobe unfortunately only offer a update from Adobe homepage at the price of Adobe € 95,20 . We apologize for any inconvenience.

You can find the ordering page in the Adobe shop at Adobe website: Adobe

Never mind!

That's obscene and disgusting. I am glad I'm using Aperture instead.

The date that you bought your camera does not affect the licence that you are given.

If you used your camera serial number and TAN code to obtain a licence then you were given a licence for the version that was available when you applied. So Leica Camera already fulfilled their arrangement with you.

Now you can get the new version for a much reduced price if you like. That is the same for every person who has purchased a licence as a retail product as well.

The situation with Capture One was similar when that was the product provided.

If you had Capture One Version 4 with a licence from owning an M8 you got the point upgrades for free (as Adobe does too) and you can now pay a reduced upgrade price to get Capture One Version 5.

6/10 would make a free upgrade longer than industry standard (30 days) so I am quite pleased. I have five days left on my lr 3 trial, guess I better figure out if I am keeping this thing, selling it on, or selling it on without a tan (to evaluate more). When you factor in legal software ownership, not that common in home environs, it actually sorta helps justify the price of the x1.

That's neither obscene or disgusting. The Op has already had his free Serial Number.

Look at the huge thread here for more.
