MalcolmW Posted July 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had to smile yesterday. I saw an advert on TV for the new Sony NEX5. One of the features it has is 'background de-focus'. My 1951 IIIf can do that too!
Advertisement Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Hi MalcolmW, Take a look here Nothing new there then.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted July 29, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 29, 2010 ... not to speak of the de-focus one can achieve with a IIIa + Thambar 90 of the '30s... ... what we really miss, with our Leicas, is the "auto-shot-at-smile" feature... ... really a technology breakthrough... Pintpot Posted July 29, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 29, 2010 And you can control it! wait until the electrics cock up and de-focus the foreground:D
AlanG Posted July 29, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 29, 2010 This is not an electronic feature in the Nex, just a different way of expressing the aperture control to change depth of field. The appeal is to users who don't really understand f stops so the interface has modes that try to explain what the controls do.

JanCderidder Posted August 4, 2010 Share #7 Posted August 4, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Don't forget the Nex isn't aimed at IIIg user but at 80% of the world population using small sensor digicams whom have no clue-, nor the possibility to "de-focus" the background. Brilliant marketing campaign however a bit laughable for all the experts whom have been able to do that since the introduction of the original Barnack camera.
