Well Chris M, I got an official answer today from Leica so you don't need to go ballistic:

The new firmware update for your Leica X1 is still in the development process. This is the reason why we unfortunately cannot inform about the official date of issue at the moment. I will inform you as soon we received more detailed information by our product management.

Thank you very much for your understanding and have a nice time with your Leica cameras.

Mit freundlichen Gruessen / kind regards

Shutter lag is a fact. But it's not serious. Sometimes I just hope there is none. For example, when I want to capture my son's smile to me, it turns out that he looks at somewhere else without the smile anymore...

I'll chalk this up to user error... I don't miss anything once focused. ;)

Guest Chris M
I read on Leicarumours that the firmware update for the Leica X1 will be out soon. Can anyone confirm this rumour?

What exactly do you think leica is going too offer for a FW up date? which by the way I could not find on the link you supplied. The link is down no info about any FW for X1, Also have you used any leica equipment before the X1 I'm just curious. Please explain as to what you think can be improved on with the known X1 (hard ware) restrictions.

:)

leicarumors.com has a paragraph about potential improvements in autofocus speed for the X1 in an updated firmware to come sometime.

"Rumors started floating about a Leica X1 firmware update that will bring improved auto focus speed."

Read into that what you will.

Unless hardware limitations are posted by a leica engineer I'd be skeptical of exactly what they are. There are no tear downs of this camera that I have seen. Even if assumptions are correct, optimization of a rev 1 product is a reasonable expectation. Finally, Steve Huff posted a nice little teaser about the x1 getting something soon.... And recently bought one, which leads me to believe it's something relatively good.
