Guest Chris M Posted July 27, 2010 Share #12 Posted July 27, 2010 Chris, you probably don't own one then .... I actually own 2 X1's, and there fantastic. Point is, everyone here responded negatively, BUT please answer the OP's question.... is there and can there be FW?? [this has been discussed ad nousium]. I'm sick of the redundantcy by people being too lazy to do a search. There is a solid day of reading about this topic, so to the OP, do a search, and you would have got your answers, its old business!!! So sorry for the original blurt. Soberly:D cm

andybarton Posted July 28, 2010 Share #14 Posted July 28, 2010 I still can't work out what Chris M is saying. That there will be no X1 firmware upgrade? Time will tell.
NZDavid Posted July 28, 2010 Share #15 Posted July 28, 2010 Not yet, but Leica dealer here was expecting it a few weeks ago. Here's the place to check: Leica Camera AG - Downloads Not sure what they're putting in the water up in Elk Grove, but must be powerful stuff. Hope the ad nousium clears up. suppenelse Posted July 28, 2010 Share #16 Posted July 28, 2010 I'm sorry, but that firmware upgrade would be too late for me, I guess - I just sold my X1 because it was totally unusable in most spontaneous situations. The poor manual focus system does not really help to forget about the slow AF, and also the boot-up time after switching on is too long for any typical "street photography" situation. Last, not least: There is a significant delay between pushing the trigger and the camera taking the actual picture. That's not acceptable in 2010, even though the early compact cameras all suffered from this delay as far as I know. I was very much looking forward to this camera before I bought it, the more I am disappointed now. The lens' focal length, the image quality, the retro-style Leica design - the X1 could have been the ideal camera for everyday use. But how does all this help if the camera is in many respects just too slow? Back to my DSLR... (too big, though)
jsrockit Posted July 28, 2010 Share #17 Posted July 28, 2010 Last, not least: There is a significant delay between pushing the trigger and the camera taking the actual picture. That's not acceptable in 2010, even though the early compact cameras all suffered from this delay as far as I know. Once focused, I don't feel like there is a significant delay at all. I feel like there is none.
JanCderidder Posted July 28, 2010 Share #18 Posted July 28, 2010 Being accustomed to a Rollei Twin lens as well as a Hasselblad the X1 seems/is fast enough for me almost producing similarly good IQ. I just purchased a second one since my wife has taken a liking to it as well ....
JanCderidder Posted July 28, 2010 Share #19 Posted July 28, 2010 ... Coming back to the slow focus, unless one needs it for kids/animals/wildlife it's an absolute "no-issue" I use to see my TLR as photography Zen, setting it up, deciding on the composition, measuring the light etc. and finally taking the shot, usually resulting in a beautiful image. Despite it's size the X1 has similar qualities, and a similar "Zen" type value to me. People may smile, fellow photographers using their D7's with a multitude of white/red-striped lenses (shooting ducks) may laugh at me, but I perceive the total quality of photography, not only the shot, the final result but the preparation of it all .... I like my X1! ... and the best thing is when you're finished you slip it into you pocket, and you're off ....
eelekim Posted July 28, 2010 Share #20 Posted July 28, 2010 Once focused, I don't feel like there is a significant delay at all. I feel like there is none. Shutter lag is a fact. But it's not serious. Sometimes I just hope there is none. For example, when I want to capture my son's smile to me, it turns out that he looks at somewhere else without the smile anymore...
