I just went to New York and really enjoyed using the X1 and my M2 on zone focus for all the interesting people on the streets.

Because you never know when you will see someone interesting, here's what I do:

F/8-f/16 depending on the light

ISO 800

Measure the light with my light meter both in shade and light so I know what shutter speed to adjust to if in walking between the buildings I step into or out of light (you can also measure with the X1)

Set shutter appropriately (1/60 in shade typically if I'm at F/11 and 1/125 to 1/250 in the sun).

Set manual focus to a zone of about 6-15 feet

Have it at my hip ready to shoot in my right hand vertically oriented. No shutter lag just instant capture. You can bracket too if they aren't turning out.

The first two are from shooting like that and the rest are just some great shots I got out of the X1 on the trip in general.

I've just discovered this thread, lost in the depths of the photo forum! I have posted a couple of images from my X1 recently, but on the "main" bit of the site. For those who may not have seen them, here they are. (The one of the church has had some HDR applied via Photomatix - hopefully not overdone!) The second is of my dog, Flake, who is now 11 years old. In his element!

Not particularly interesting I know, but this is the very first picture out of my X1...

This is a super fine JPEG out of the camera with nothing done to it except for resizing. There was just enough power in the battery to take this and a couple of others before I had to put it on charge and wait an agonising couple or hours before I could have a proper play. I think the standard sharpening for JPG's is a little too much, so I have turned it down a tad.

Here is one a took yesterday at ISO 3200 using High Contrast Black and White...

some snapshots from my trip to Santorini / Kyklades / Greece:

When you are calling these "snapshots" in post 61 (third page I think) I wouldn't include 1 and 3 in that mix. We've seen plenty examples of snapshots on this forum but can't say that 1 and 3 fill that bill. I like the angles, color and texture of number 1 and number 3 the guy has good character that comes through in your capture.

All the best,

ray..........

EDITED TO ADD: Sorry guys, found a 1 year old thread to comment on and bump up to the top :(

Here are a couple from the weekend. This is only my second outing with the X1, so I am still learning - it is great fun though and such an inspirational camera.

I spent a weekend in France and took the X1 on its first proper outing. It wasn't the right camera for the nature/bird reserve ;) but was great for what its best at, people and landscapes. Here are a couple of photos from the trip:

Wrapped Up - a candid of strangers on the sea front at Le Touquet.

Ault Sunset (not, as a friend of mine thought, the white cliffs of Dover!)
