Modern Telephone

Al & Apul -

I've seen a number of well designed and well conducted studies indicating that use of cell phones while driving (hand held and hands free) puts the driver at the same risk as being legally drunk. Another indicates that 18% of the conscious mind is involved with the cell phone during calls. I've not seen any studies on texting, which I assume would be even more dramatic.

Paul & Stuart,

When I was on the highway with a Japanese business man, in Japan, he would pull over whenever he received a call. This was ten years ago. I think it was the law.

I am 63 and started texting, surfing, e-mailing, checking the forum, telephoning, map reading, and weather checking while driving.........I was lucky........I am now pulling over to do all of these things.
