This should not happen. There is a faulty circuit somewhere. Return the camera to your dealer forthwith.

Thank you so much!

Honestly, i really hate to return my leica X1 back. i am still thinking of whether my description is accurate. it's different to say how hot it is. it seems between warm and hot. you never feel any heat ever , do you?

Thanks again

My X1 did not get very warm after firing 900 shots within a 45-minute time period. No warmer than my hand, which at best is 98.6 degrees F.

That would be 3 frames p/sec continuously for 45 minutes?!?...

At three frames per second it would take only five minutes, not 45 minutes, to shoot 900 frames. I guess math wasn't your strong suit in school. :D Shooting one frame every three seconds, on the other hand, would yield 900 frames in 45 minutes.

Actually I got 6-shot bursts most of the time, then had to wait for the camera to catch up.

My X1's body becomes obviously hot after 10mins using. The heat starts from battery side and spreads to whole body in 20mins. Is it normal?

Please, if anyone knows, HELP!!!

Hello,

my X1 gets also warm after 10 min. using. But only warm not hot! It starts also from the battery and radiates into the grip. The other side of camera remains colder.

I phoned Leica service, they confirmed it´s normal.

Get´s your X1 warm or hot?

Greetings, Tim.

I noticed also that my X1 got very warm once.

I had just shot about 150 exposures in about 30 minutes. This was in May 2010 in a 92 degree F. location.. It cooled off after a while. I don't know if it was the battery heating and/or the processor or both. I suspect both.

However, I have not had such an intense shooting session since then and I have not noticed the camera getting warm like this either. Cell phones do the same thing during a lengthy conversation. I have used the camera a good deal since then but maybe the heaviest rate has been 25 shots in an hour. There has been no noticeable heating since the first incident and the X1 has been perfect.

I guess checking with the Leica dealer or Leica Service Department would be best.

Best Wishes, and may the Leica be with you !

Since my X1 did not get particularly warm during the rapid-fire 900 shots I made, which were of a lightning storm at night, there may be some factors that make a difference. Even though my screen was on all the time, it was also dark almost all of the time. And when I'm walking around with the X1, Leica turns the screen off after one minute. So it appears that the screen uses a lot of power, which would make for a lot of heat if you kept the screen on all the time, and the image on the screen were always bright.

  • 4 weeks later...

i would honestly think that its normal, every pocket cam i owned got warm after a time but thankfully i rarely shot a great amount of pictures from one particular object, i think u just feel the temperature faster on a small camera then on a big dslr. i really think u send it in for nothing.

If I had one that gets real hot I would take more pics successively and see if the things blows up. If it does, I think Leica will give you a M9 to quash the bad publicity maybe?? :D

I felt that my x1 has the heating problem too, so I asked for testing to leica service center. Now I'm waiting for the result.

In my case, not necessary to take many pics successively. Only after a few shots, X1 body(battery side area) become warmer.

Even better, no? That way it may blow up sooner, so you are lucky to get a free M9 quicker:D

I received my X1 yesterday and I'm very dissapointed with this heat issue.

After 5 min, the camera becomes hot in the grip area, as other members has reported. I've asked Leica, and I'm waiting for their response.

I don't think this is normal, I haven't measured it, but it's significantly warmer than my hand, to the point that it's unconfortable. I can't imagine what would happen with 3 hours of use...
