LeicaBraz Posted July 18, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone has experience with Rimowa bags for photo gear? They seem quite solid for travel. Thanks
Advertisement Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Hi LeicaBraz, Take a look here Rimowa. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Manolo Laguillo Posted July 18, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 18, 2010 In the 80's I used one (aprox 40x50x25 cm) for the 4x5 view camera. They say it's so waterproof, you can throw it in a river, without problem for the content. I did not make the test, however. They are solid and heavy, but I would not trust them for a check-in. Pelican cases are IMO better if you have to let your equipment go to the aircraft's belly. Alu is nice when new, but it becomes ugly after a couple of travels: it has a bad aging, IMO again. It all depends from what you want. If the treatment will be very rough, the best idea is putting the equipment inside a soft well padded bag, which goes inside a waterproof and shockproof container, Pelican, Zarges, or whatever. menos I M6 Posted July 19, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 19, 2010 I use a Rimova Pilot trolly mid size as a personal luggage in addition to my photo messenger bag. As I trash the Rimova around quite a bit (it indeed is very sturdy), I would not put any photographic gear inside. Any photo gear goes in the messenger bag. I suppose, Pelicans are much less costly as well, when you need a foam container, if you can't get the gear in the cabin. The Rimova stuff comes quite pricey. The quality and workmanship on the Rimova items is top notch.
jaapv Posted July 19, 2010 Share #4 Posted July 19, 2010 The problem with Rimowa cases is that they seem to have a tendency to disappear in some airports - they look too expensive...
LeicaBraz Posted July 19, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted July 19, 2010 Thanks to all. Doesn't seem to be worth the expense.
