Editing metadata info in LR3.

Greetings,

When I have lab scanned film images that I shot with my Leica M6, and then added to my LR3 catalog, I don't want to see "QSS-32_33" in the camera metadata field. I'd like to be able to edit the camera model field to read "Leica M6".

Is there anyway to do this in LR3, or is there a standalone program that will allow me to do this?

(I use a Mac BTW)

Thanks in advance!

Keith

Don't think you can edit EXIF info such as this directly in LR (although you can add/change a variety of other types of metadata as well as set up metadata templates). I could be wrong, but in any case, a Google search turns up other options like this...Lightroom, Film Scans and EXIF/IPTC (Page 1) - Computer Software/Hardware - Manual Focus Forum

I have been struggling with this very issue. My Leica M8 sometimes tells me I've taken a shot with a lens I have never owned. To tidy things up I change the Exif data on the individual shots manually. I have not worked out a away to automate this, so perhaps not a great way to go if you have a lot of images to change. My thanks to Victoria Bampton, AKA Lightroom Queen for the tip.

Mark the relavent files as read only in Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Windows). Then navigate to the folder in Bridge (not Lightroom), open the file in camera raw and make a tiny adjustment. As the original file is read only the change is saved out as an .xmp file which can be opened in any text editor. Find the camera line and change the text within ">Leica M8 or whatever<" to your desired text, and save. Back in Finder or Explorer make the files read & write again and then import into Lightroom. This will read the updated .xmp file back into the .dng file and the camera model will show corectly in metadata. Probably.

The reason for the probably is I have one file that resolutely refuses to change no matter what!

Good luck with this, and if anybody from Adobe should read this, can we have the ability to do this in Lightroom v4 please?

Regards

John
