rlcosta Posted July 10, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 10, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, Attached is what I'm getting from the camera. Earlier today it developed a vertical stripe then this??? No resetting the camera, new batteries blah blah or reformatting of the sd card helped. What's your best guess. Australia is a long way from Germany! It's an M8 early type... Must say, was working fine till now Welcome, dear visitor! Nicoleica Posted July 10, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2010 I'm sorry to hear that your camera seems to be having a near-death experience. A couple of thoughts spring to mind though. Have you had a look to see if the shutter is jammed open, (Or even still there!) and that it functions correctly at several different speeds? If the shutter appears to work OK, then have you tried taking out the battery and leaving the camera switched on for about 24 hours to exhaust the internal battery and thus cause a full reset when you put a charged battery back in? Otherwise it looks like it may need a visit to the service centre.
rlcosta Posted July 10, 2010 Author Share #3 Posted July 10, 2010 Hi Nicole, Thanks for the response The shutter seems fine. I tested it at a few obvious speeds and all seemed fine. I'll try the 24hr trick and see what happens.

citrus Posted July 10, 2010 Share #8 Posted July 10, 2010 Sorry, but did you store the camera close to a microwave oven? Sensor got trouble. Hope it is still in warranty - then it is not an issue and only takes time. I had to choose between paying 2k USD or a new camera and guess what? rlcosta Posted July 10, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted July 10, 2010 Been out of warranty for ages, sadly. Is this not a factory fault? My Canon 5D had a factory fault were the mirror could become dislodged. They repaired it free way after any official warranty period..Leica not like that? hoppyman Posted July 11, 2010 Share #11 Posted July 11, 2010 Rob your camera doesn't look well. Adeal do not perform any repair of that level here although they can send it to Solms for you of course. You can also deal directly with customer service in Solms. You can find the contact details on the Leica Camera website . under the service tab. Leica Camera AG - Home
rlcosta Posted July 11, 2010 Author Share #12 Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks Geoff, I probably figured as much! I've sent an email to Solms for their comment. Things always fail on a weekend..... Rob
atufte Posted July 11, 2010 Share #13 Posted July 11, 2010 I see you have tried tis but, have you tried changing to a fresh battery (a new one, not just charging), and a new SD card, this cured this failure on my camera, and after going through some cycles with charging the faulty battery/SD card also works again...hope this helps you as well... dpattinson Posted July 11, 2010 Share #14 Posted July 11, 2010 Thanks Geoff,I probably figured as much! I've sent an email to Solms for their comment. Things always fail on a weekend..... Rob My experience with Adeal was delay getting the camera to Solms (they seem to ship only once a month), and paying approximately double what the cost of a lens coding should be. I would strongly recommend dealing direct with Solms.

I would strongly recommend dealing direct with Solms. You may be right! Adeal have said they need to sent it to Solms for inspection and a quote for repairs. Still waiting to hear back from Solms. I asked Adeal to, at least, give me an idea on the order of cost to replace the CCD and image processor. That will at least let me decide whether its acceptable to to ask for a quote from Solms or throw it in the bin Without any obligation, can anyone tell me the order of cost? andybarton Posted July 12, 2010 Share #16 Posted July 12, 2010 Just call Solms CS direct. They are very helpful.

Rob Well, when I asked Solms CS directly about the cost of my repairs (after the camera had been sent in by Adeal), they said that they couldn't comment on cost as that was up to Adeal. So my advice would be to contact Solms directly for any indicative quote, and ship it directly as well.
hoppyman Posted July 12, 2010 Share #18 Posted July 12, 2010 Rob, I read of another M8 sensor replacement recently (damaged by user cracking the cover glass) It was reported to cost 782 EURO. Maybe that gives you a broad idea. However, email or phone customer service first. The normal procedure is that they send a Repair Form where you can authorise work up to a certain point in advance if desired . They will send you an estimate for approval before completing anything over that nominated amount. Cost of course depends on what they find. One other thing to keep in mind is that the whole camera is checked and adjusted as required automatically (and to the latest standard). You will get a warranty of 12 months on the whole camera if you get the camera repaired. it is possible that you do not need the sensor replaced if you are fortunate. Maybe could be some other fault? Until they look it is only guessing of course. Good luck!
