New firmware - what's missing?

Oh dear oh dear - despite all of the feature requests that have appeared on the forum, it would seem that Leica have, as usual, missed more than a few tricks with the new firmware...

  1. Complete lack of a self-importance setting for jet-setting executives
  2. No bespoke leather goods setting to complement the self-importance-setting
  3. No new full-frame sensor. You would have thought that they could have written in a few more million pixels, but no.
  4. No underwater housing setting
  5. No Live view - so I'll just have to continue to use the visoflex that I haven't got.
  6. No make me a better photographer setting
  7. No wannabe menu - just think, by selecting from a menu, you could have been HCB, Winogrand, etc.
  8. No sync socket
  9. No hotshoe thingummybob for visoflex users

On a serious note, I am quite happy that Leica continue to support the M8, even if this does turn out to be the final iteration of the firmware.

Its missing the "Super Auto" mode, where robotic legs (sold separately) sprout out and the camera will walk about the vicinity by itself, capturing photos automatically. If you use this in conjunction with the "HCB" mode on, you will get award winning shots. Otherwise, just average.

This one is trivial! It's just chaging the MAX_WIDTH and MAX_HEIGHT constants and a recompile! My 4 year old nephew could do it in a couple of minutes...

Let's hope the Forum takes this thread as a bit of fun.

Made me grin.

Although you didn't get those wished for features, did you notice the menu item that selects 'Steel Grey' mode? I think it may only be enabled on the chrome models. You can select INFO mode too, which disables the frame counter/battery gauge on the top plate.

I do have a serious question, but I guess I'll try to find another thread to ask in! :D

Probably a good idea! :D:D (Unless it's a question regarding the firmware option to use the new Anti-matter battery pack?)

The installation notes say that underwater pix are made with the photographer under the water and the camera held above it.

I feared they would add the audio clip that says, "No, stupid, that's not a good picture." Fortunately, the subcontractor didn't get the module completed in time. Perhaps it'll be available for the M9, first.

Yes, but there's a problem with it. If you use the anti-matter battery for pictures that are important (i.e matter), then the whole thing disintegrates in a blinding flash of pure energy.:D

I like the new phone feature, and dialing with the click-wheel, but where are the instructions for the way to hold the camera for best reception? Is it the right hand or the left?

You need to wear the iGlove. Made of poly-ethylene it comes in two colours transparent and transparent. Available now from your local Apple store at under £30.

Being serious for a second, as an iPhone 4 user I've been more than happy with the phone and haven't had any reception problems.

And no scenes.

Like baby eating banana versus adult munching on spinach.

Which are quite different,eh . . .

Or snow with people or water without.

or night and/or day . . .

etc.....

what a terrible disappointment.

But for the record, I am happy with the old M8.
