geoffreyg Posted January 2, 2007 Share #4 Posted January 2, 2007 Wow. lovely shots. Great capture at night, and the depth in the image is just great. Gives one pause for an f/ 1.4 lens. Geoff

ho_co Posted January 2, 2007 Share #6 Posted January 2, 2007 Woody-- I don't understand why, but the link has been taking me to an "empty" gallery for the last two hours. But the files are there: Go to http://www.pbase.com/markowich/root&page=4 and click on the thumbnail. That takes you to the same URL as the link, except it works... --HC
ho_co Posted January 2, 2007 Share #7 Posted January 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Peter-- All very nice. I particularly like #9 (Nudeln) because of its perspective and depth. The left side shows diminishing stalls, the wet road reflection reinforces them, there is "light at the end of the tunnel" (as it were), but it doesn't look inviting. The only warmth seems to come from the noodle shop, but even that is only from the sign. Very evocative. Happy New Year, and thanks for these pics! (Gee, as long as there are people out there making pictures like this, maybe I can just look at their work and forget about getting my own M8? ) --HC

Only thing I thought was that I would not want to be in this location when it is as deserted as your shots show, with nothing but Leica bodies and glass to show for it. Wow........this is as dangerous as being in parts of Iraq shooting war related pictures. Wonderful stuff though and thanks for being one of the prototypical M photojournalist shooters. arthury Posted January 5, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 5, 2007 Were these more than 2secs type of shots? Tripod I presume? Very good night shots! I have a similar one here: http://www.leica-camera-user.com/other/12994-m8-cityscape.html#post134337
markowich Posted January 5, 2007 Author Share #11 Posted January 5, 2007 my vienna nightshots are all handheld, ranging from 1/15 to 1/60 sec. summilux 35mm does the job... i presume your nightshot is handheld, too. i would take my alpa SWA with P45 for tripod shots, but the M8 is sooooo light. peter

wparsonsgisnet Posted January 5, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 5, 2007 Peter, excellent shots. Thanks for posting. I find that the M8 gathers more light at the lower end than I have seen from cameras previously. I like the extra shadow detail it renders.

I find that the M8 gathers more light at the lower end than I have seen from cameras previously. I like the extra shadow detail it renders. Bill - part of that is the Leica glass as well. Film or digital, the lenses find substance in the shadows. Peter....nice stuff. Part of what I've been waiting to see from the M8 is low light night shooting - something the Leica glass & M bodies excel at.

Peter....nice stuff. Part of what I've been waiting to see from the M8 is low light night shooting - something the Leica glass & M bodies excel at. totally correct. street shooting -night and day- is great with leica. for many kinds of shooting nikon/canon DSLRs are clearly superior, but the M8 excels in some areas and is so much more fun to use. as far as nikon lenses go i feel (no scientific tests yet) that only my nikon 85mm f1.4, 105mm f2 and 200mm f2 (totally out of leica range) can compete with leica glass. (no experience with canon!). peter
