Has anyone received there x1 recently on the east coast. I've been watching b&h and there seems to be no hope in getting one soon.

I have seen it appear as in stock on the B&H a few times in past. Try signing up for the alerts on a site like nowinstock.net.

I would recommend acting quickly if you are interested in the x1. Although the X1 is now slowly showing up in stock at various camera shops, it seems that "in stock" literally means a single unit in stock. I live in Los Angeles and have been looking for an x1 for 3 months. A couple days ago I was finally able to snag one from a camera shop in the midwest. I would be surprised if Leica was producing the X1 in such large quantities that the larger online sites (bhphoto, adorama, etc.) will start showing them in stock. My advice to those still looking is to check the smaller shops. I am also wondering if Leica follows the Rolex business model: ship a unit only when a unit is sold. Anyone know if the x1 supply is being artificially managed?

I think it's not that complicated.

Leica is selling more X1s, M9s and S2s (duh?...) than they can produce. This says something about their current success and their small production capacity. Canon produces more SLRs before the first daily coffee break than Leica does in a year. With these 3 'Solms models' there is a great deal of handwork involved.

And when Leica has to balance production capacity between models, my wild guess is that the most profitable models are given priority. And that is not the X1.

Addition: My shop has 12 S2s on backorder including some 30 odd S2 lenses...

That's good news. I prefer to buy local and not online. Hopefully my local shop will have some in soon.

I don't understand this logic. Online and in person has the same waranty. Unless you mean you haven't handled the X1 yet and don't want to buy until you see one in person.

If you truly need to buy local, you better make sure you are next in line and that they are even scheduled to get any in. If they are not a Leica dealer... it may be a longer wait.

Maybe Mscanel wants to support his local camera dealer, rather than a box shifter at the other end of the country, or even in another continent.

Lots of people prefer to do business this way.

Speaking of local camera dealers, I am seeing a lot of them doing "box shifting" of the X1 on Amazon (at a substantial markup of course). I'm sure there are plenty of upstanding local camera dealers out there, but there are just as many that want to take advantage of the supply situation and make a quick buck. Although I ordered my X1 from a camera shop that was over 1,000 miles away, I plan on giving them future business due to their outstanding customer service, lack of sales pressure to buy accessories, and not charging over MSRP on the X1. In these tough economic times, I really respect the small guys that do not participate in price gouging.

Yes. For example, a seller is selling it through Amazon at USD2,699.95...

I guess one of the reasons why it's out of stock at nearly all the dealers is that some unscrupulous people have bought them all for ultra high profit. I remember someone has reported at dpreview that it's for sale at almost USD3,500 in Hong Kong!
