Hot Rods again

Three more from the Hot Rod gathering yesterday. If you are old enough to remember the first one as a new car, you are too old. I wouldn't get into the truck on a bet! The last one I just couldn't resist the irony. Next time I will take the time to: a) check the ISO setting (Duh!), B) mount my circular polarizer, c) buy an ice cream cone from one of the several vendors.

Thanks and enjoy,

Mark Blumer

PS: there is serious degrading of the picture quality when reducing the shots to meet the posting requirements. The originals are much sharper on my monitors here. Am I reducing the pictures wrong or is this a necessary by-product of reduction? I am simply reducing them to specific requirements in the export window of LR 3.

Mark,

I must be too old as that appears to be a 1957 Ford Fairlane. I don't recall any with a convertible top like that. My best friend had an all white job with a soft top that we use to ride around in all the time. The truck looks like a speed demon. You should try it out.

I'm too old too. Nice car shots! That Ford was called a Skyliner. The usable trunk area was a box in the center of the trunk area. The rest of the trunk was occupied by that huge roof.

Mark -

Fun. Larry & I are clearly of a similar age. If you saw the car with the top up you'd have been amazed by its imbalance, with a long rear deck to so unlike the standard long hood look of the time.

I, too, remember that 57 Ford Skyliner (aka Retractable as they are called nowadays) as a new car although I was only seven or so. They were made 57-59. My friend's older brother had one. There were miles of wiring, many relays, solenoids, and limit switches that made it operate. Amazingly, of course, all before any type of automotive electronic computer was even a gleam in anyone's eye. You might say it was a special-purpose electromechanical computer.
