Shutter Counts on Ebay

Hi,

just ask the seller, if he can make a brand new photo as DNG or JPG and use an EXIF viewer; in the bottom line you can read the actuations in HEX, then recalculate from HEX to DEC with a calculatur or with a pencil and sheet of paper and then you should know it; but don't worry: The shutter will most likely survive the M8 usage :)

Happy shooting,

Chris

In reading through some of the "Shutter Count" posts, I am more confused than when I started. Is there a simple way to tell what my shutter count is?

Simply put - no, there is not. If there was a simpler way, it would not be necessary to check the shutter count the complicated way.....;)

Best,

Jan

Thanks for the quick help Ckone77. I have received the camera and have it in my hand, but it is my first M8, so I don't understand much of what you said - I am a total newbie.

I only want to know the shutter count to see if the seller was telling the truth, not because I think the camera will not hold up to shutter firings.

Perhaps you would be willing to guide me through this on the phone?

1) Take a jpg image using the M8

2) Copy image to computer

3) Check the metadata embedded in the image file and look for the "Unique Image ID"

4) Convert the value in the Unique Image ID from Hex to Decimals.

Alternative: For viewing the Unique Image ID, you can also use Geosetter for viewing metadata. Geosetter also happens to be one of the best geotagging software available and it's free.
