Ramses Posted June 7, 2010 Share #1 Posted June 7, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) What can I say. I've used the X1 for a few weeks now, and I still love it and hate it. I love it because I can take it with me everywhere. Even when I bike, and I bike a lot, I can take it with my and shoot from inside the peleton when cycling. It's the "bikecam" I've always wanted. (But then again, so is my Ep1 with 20mm also) I hate it because its a fixed lens at 36mm. That, for me is a problem. I would have prefer a 50mm. And thats why I, when I know I'm gonna shoot people, I choose my EP1 with pana20mm, and a Olly50mm (with mft/ft converter). Or I bring my Canon1D4 if its a job. If Leica, or someone else, could make me a teleconverter, say 1,5x and 3x. That would give me 35mm and 50mm and 105mm. I'd sell my PEn in a sec. I love it because itgives me high quality pictures. The files are awesome. Sharp allover and great colors. I love the files. Even the jpgfiles are great. I hate it because it is so slow. I thought my Canon 5D2 was slow, and I thought my PEN was slow, but when I start using the X1 i really found out what slow was. And I'm not only talking about the autofocus, everything with this camera is slow. I love it bacause the autofocus is slow. That way I can consentrate on taking good picture. I'm now learning to see. And I controll the camera. I love it because it has a fixed lens. I believe my legs are the best zoom I've ever had. And 35mm makes me get closer to what I shoot. Closer to people. Its scary but I want it. Someone said "I'm afraid and I fear to get too close, and I also feel I need to get closer". Or something like that. I know exactly what he ment. I hate it because sometimes the jpgfiles looks much better than my rawfiles, and its hard to find out what the camera has done with the jpg-files. Its not only sharpened and saturated and noise-redused. But then again, if the jpgfiles are good its really a good thing. I like the looks of the camera. Its small, it good a goodlooking Leicalogo, people looks twice at it, and it gives me a good feeling. Ok maybe my head says there are better cameras but my heart say, no there isn't. (My English isn't that good so forgive me if I write something the wrong way)
Advertisement Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hi Ramses, Take a look here Love / hate the X1. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
reginaldwatkins Posted June 8, 2010 Share #2 Posted June 8, 2010 I agree about the unprocessed raw files. I too have a question about the jpeg algorithm, what all goes into it? Is it more than sharpening, saturation and contrast? Lightroom is great at getting the raw to look as good as the jpeg but sometimes I find it most difficult. The quality makes me love this camera, I can live with slow stuff...
tom0511 Posted June 8, 2010 Share #3 Posted June 8, 2010 I love it for the size, included flash, good lens, because I like 35mm, for the user interface (not overloaded with buttons and functions), and for the silent shutter (big plus), I hate it for the slowish AF and they could have used a better display. NZDavid Posted June 8, 2010 Share #4 Posted June 8, 2010 Right on. I don't love it for being slow though. Thing is, compared with others out there, faults may be minimal...hard to tell without actually shooting with them.
Ramses Posted June 9, 2010 Author Share #5 Posted June 9, 2010 I hate it because I allready got scratches on the LCD screen
caimi Posted June 9, 2010 Share #6 Posted June 9, 2010 After spending a week with it as my travel camera, the x1's image quality far outshines its shortcomings. The only trouble I had with the X1 this week was the difficulty in seeing the screen in sunlight. But it performed very well, held up perfectly and takes stunning images. How many remember how slow the IIIF was to advance the film?
