Frankly I think there is even a big difference in size between MFTs and the X1. Portability is key i deciding how often I bring my camera. No camera no pictures?? However, I challenge you to produce equal or better ISO 4000 or 6400 IQ with the X1 under similar conditions. After heavily reducing and compressing the files from approximately 4MB to 400KB, loading them up to the web site resulted in 64KB compressed files. Obviously something gets lost in that process. It may be something I am doing wrong. Hey John. the X1 goes up to 3200, so the discussion is moot. In any case, I do not use anything above 1600 coz I like my images nice. In any case, just to address your thing with iso 5000 images looking like iso 400, plus make the point that some may be ok with images at 6400 looking like what you took, but some not. Also, if the room was actually dark and that the shot was done at iso 6400 or 4000 for that matter, heavier noise must creep in. Maybe that is more relevant since given the adequate lighting in the room there is no necessity for high iso to that extent? Test the iso 6400 in darkness, maybe eve iso 1600 in very dark areas, maybe there is some real-life practicality in that comparison? I will do the same John and lets compare images? That is not a bright scene. You should be able to easily duplicate the light level which I would say is about the level of a night club stage or a little less. You have the light reading for the desk shot at ISO 200 so you should be able to extrapolate I measured at f2.8, 1/25th sec at ISO 200. I would say the light level is comparable on the desk top to a dinning table in a nice restaurant. It shouldn't be too hard to match those conditions. For the M9 It would be a more considered trip yes, but the X1 is perfect for a "always with me" camera. Also, the better images for the M9 is a consideration. Just went to a used cam store morning and tried out the M8 to see if MF with rangefinder is okay for my bad eyesight (myopic and long-sigtedness combined ), was ok, but think need quite a bit of practice. So AF is critical for me. Especially if shooting a lot since can cause eye-strain. AF maybe imperative for some, not so for others. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I have not quite mastered it (obviously) but now know what it can and can't do, and with Nex files being able to be processed in LR3 now I took it to the local museum and shot some some shot with the basic zoom lens..... I was quite impressed that a camera of that price is able to produce such nice results, I can't technically underbuild that since I have none what so ever knowledge of camera/sensor technology, the only thing I trust is my eyes and they were particularly pleased with the results. I am unable to use MF because of my eyes and viewfinder focussing, but if Sony ever decided to introduce a high quality lens for the Nex I think I would buy it. It's still more bulky than the X1, the overall IQ isn't as good but all in all a very nice camera indeed, although I wouldn't use it with the current 16mm lens, the zoom isn't any better but a lot more versatile. Yeah, the lack of an EVF option was what kept me from buying the camera initially, and now I'm not sure I'd even need one anymore. The tilt up screen is my favorite part. The site has no issues with images provided you keep within the rules - 960 pixels on the longest side and around 300k. If you post an image larger that that it will be drastically reduced in size.
